Besotted (The Billionaire Banker, #3)Book 2, ’42 Days’, ended with a terrible revelation from Blake. ‘Besotted’ begins with Blake’s point of view at a later point in time. This steamy chapter sets the scene for what is to follow. Lana and Blake’s relationship becomes even darker, even though their love remains strong.

Blake continues his autocratic treatment of Lana. He wants to protect her at all costs, which given the depraved world they inhabit is understandable. His unrelenting suppression of her free will is in itself a disturbing development. Despite her courage and spirit, Lana is very much the bird in the gilded cage, in this part of the story. This story explores Blake’s sexual domination of Lana and the sexual scenes are appropriately explicit to demonstrate this vividly. Lana subjugates her will in the name of love but it makes the reader wonder if she will survive in her ivory tower.

‘Besotted’ is characterised by slower pacing and simpler plot than the previous two books in the series. The menace from Blake’s peers and ex lover increases, it’s like watching the seven deadly sins unfold. Lana’s dealings with Blake’s ex lover and his brother, allow her strength of character to shine through despite her fear.
The ending is suitably glamorous and romantic but Blake and Lana’s story is not finished.

Mystery Thriller My Review

Forty 2 DaysIt’s been a while since I read the first book in this series ‘Owned’ but when I started to read ‘Forty 2 Days’, this morning, I instantly remembered Lana, Blake and the irrepressible Billie.

Lana was running scared, in more ways than one, at the end of the ‘Owned’. This story finds Lana a changed woman, mature and a little less trusting. She has suffered loss and happiness in the intervening time. The only constant in her life is her love for Blake, which won’t go away.

Their reunion is a reflection of their first meeting. Blake remains as controlling as ever but beneath his obvious anger, is something more, something Lana needs to explore in the 42 days they have left of her contract.
The underlying darkness and menace of this story increases but who is in danger from the dark family secrets? Can Lana convince Blake her love is strong enough to stay the course this time?

The emotional connection between Blake and Lana deepens as he ‘punishes’ her, with sex as his weapon of choice. The sexual scenes are numerous and explicit but each adds a piece to the emotional journey the couple are travelling.

Hope is ‘alive and well’, as the book draws to its conclusion, until a series of devastating events rock Lana’s world and test her commitment to Blake. Unexpected twists and the presence of ancient secret rituals are seamlessly interwoven into this enthralling story. The ending is stormy but there are powerful rays of sunshine too. Will the light or the dark prevail?

‘Forty 2 Days is an addictive read, with an intriguing and often disturbing plot.

My Review

Owned (The Billionaire Banker, #1)‘Owned’ is a story of fatalistic attraction between Blake and Lana; two people who in ordinary circumstances would never have met.
Blake is part of an elite, powerful family. They represent the covert control present in every overtly democratic society and possess an aura of menace and mystic many government leaders covet.

Lana lives with her mother on a notorious council estate. Her father is long gone unable to cope with his wife’s life- threatening illness. Lana picks up the pieces. When conventional medicine offers no hope she uses the only asset she possesses to give her mother a chance of life.

Their serendipitous meeting saves Lana from a cruel man but is the salvation Blake offers, just as dangerous? Their business arrangement quickly becomes something more to both of them but only Lana is honest enough to acknowledge it, perhaps because of innocence and optimism. Blake’s actions betray his true feelings but if these two are destined for a happy ever after it seems so way off at the end of book 1.

I loved the characters. They are so vivid; you feel part of their lives. There is also an underlying menace and depravity in this story, which makes it a compelling read.

I’m hooked.
