5*:Review Misbehaving in Miami-Aimeé Duffy – Summer Flings #2

22724321The girls are off to a beach house to catch some rays – and if they play their cards right – super hot guys!

With drinking games in the name of Gucci, a surprise visit from a very pissed off Zack and hunks galore, Miami is turning into their best stop yet. Not to mention Ciara finally comes up with a way to have her cake and eat it too!

The ideal summer treat for those relaxing days soaking up the sun!

Misbehaving in Miami (Summer Flings #2)My Review

‘Misbehaving in Miami’ sees Ciara, Elle and Gem determined to enjoy the full beach and bar experience. Ciara has left a little of her heart back in Tinsel Town but her friends won’t let her brood. Her ability to drink with the best of them wins Ciara the undying gratitude of her friends and the chance of some extra holiday spending money.
Our Oxford graduates eager for new learning experiences enlist the help of three beach hotties to further their education. Zack in all his furious glory gatecrashes the girls’ impromptu pool party with their new friends. Zack addictive attraction for Ciara continues… The ice cream scene is definitely a must read.
There’s shopping, steamy sex and sun in this episode of ‘Summer Flings’ and an enticing taste of mystery…

5* Review: Trouble In Tinsel Town – Aimée Duffy – Summer Flings #1

22724185

Part 1 of Summer Flings – a fun, flirty and laugh out loud Rom Com series of short stories.

Armed with a degree from Oxford that she doesn’t have a clue what to do with, Ciara Bree convinces her two best friends, Elle and Gem to spend their first summer of freedom backpacking across the globe. Now it’s time to shop, sunbathe, think about boys for a change, and party hard…

First stop: LA!

The girls hit Tinseltown for a few days of shopping, star spotting, and even a movie premiere!

But their plan to sneak into an exclusive celeb party in West Hollywood backfires. Elle’s gorgeous older cousin, Zack, is called to the rescue and despite knowing she should stay away, Ciara just can’t seem to resist him.

The ideal summer treat for those relaxing days soaking up the sun!

Trouble in Tinseltown (Summer Flings #1)My Review

Trouble in Tinsel Town is the first delicious slice of fun and flirty mayhem for Ciara, Elle and Gem. The Oxford graduates leave their studies behind and set off on a backpacking tour of the world. LA is the first stop. Believe me if I could experience backpacking in the style these three do I would be first in line.
The setting is glitzy and glamorous, seen from Ciara’s point of view. Elle and Gem are trust fund babes but Ciara is different and looking at celebrity lifestyle through her eyes grounds this story in a pleasing way.
The three friends are likeable characters. Elle and Gem appear shallow but I suspect their individual stories will make the women beneath the public face, complex and interesting. Ciara is intelligent and attractive but a little scared of living. Elle and Gem care about her and want her to have fun and that’s what a trip of a lifetime should be right?
It couldn’t be a summer fling without a hot man and Zack certainly fulfils the role. Serious and sexy Ciara finds him hard to resist but is this just a fling or something more, guess we’ll have to see what happens in Miami.
Trouble in Tinsel Town is full of humorous, realistic, dialogue. I was ready to jump in their luggage after enjoying the pool and the party, eager to see what happens at the next destination of their adventure.

4*Review: Morgan’s Match – Krystal Shannan -Short Story

718f3c33f62a5941773de65f7a7a3d7ed1eaf443-thumbWhat’s a girl to do when she can find love for everyone but herself? Computer genius and matchmaking witch extraordinaire, Morgan O’Neal, created a computer program from an old family recipe. Her business is a huge success, churning out dozens of matched happy couples, but her love life is still where it stalled out years ago.

The biggest catch to being a matchmaker…you can’t work a spell on yourself.

When Connor McGuire, hot high school flame, suddenly inserts himself back into her life, will the hunky Irish warlock seal the deal? Or will a decade-old betrayal keep them apart forever?

My Review

I loved this sexy, romantic paranormal short story.
Morgan is a witch with Irish ancestry and a huge magical family. A successful career woman, she combined her inherited skills with technical knowledge and created the perfect dating match programme. Settled in Texas she has found her true self but not her soul mate.
Morgan and Connor are well-developed characters which have great chemistry. The sensual romance enhances the story. There are lots of clues to other interesting characters and stories which I hope the author will write about soon. This is the first story I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more of her paranormal romantic tales.

Olivia Shaw-Clayton’s life revolves around her job ever since her husband was killed eight months ago in Iraq. She slaves away at her desk in hopes of numbing the pain of her loss and the guilt of longing to fall asleep once again to be joined by her phantom lover.

Phantom LoverMy Review:

‘Phantom Lover’ is a poignant tale of loss and love. This short story sizzles from the start as Olivia experiences sensual overload in her lover’s arms. Unfortunately reality sets in, yet another erotic dream and she’s still alone with only a demanding career as a defence lawyer to keep her sane.

Olivia’s grief is tangible you feel her pain and confusion as she struggles through her pain-filled existence. Drawn deeper into to her fantasy world Olivia struggles to understand what she is experiencing and in rare insightful moments she questions her sanity.

The ending is dramatic and unexpected. It rounds off the sexy, heart-rending tale in an inspiring, satisfying way.

5* Review: Be My Valentine – Nikki Moore, Teresa Morgan, Brigid Coady

The last in my out of season reviews takes us to Valentine’s Day and a lovely collection of romantic short stories which I really enjoyed.

My ReviewBe My Valentine

Be My Valentine’ is a wonderful collection of romantic shorts with memorable characters and emotion rich plots. I enjoyed all five which are quick, easy reads’ that leave a lasting impression. I usually find short stories leave me up in the air with more questions than answers but these all reach a satisfying conclusion.

Stories one and five are beautifully poignant and brought a tear to my eye.

Here’s what I thought of each story:

The Love Letter: Poignant, vivid setting with a surprising twist.
A Day in the Life: A tale of courage and hope for the future.
Love Will Find You: Sweet romance in a realistic setting.
Storm in a Coffee Cup: Fun and sweetly romantic.
Half a Heart: Realistic and emotional.

Be My Valentine gives you romance with realism and a proper ending.

I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

4* Review Strange Courtships – Nine Short Stories – Carla Sarett

Strange Courtships: Nine Romantic StoriesStrange Courtships focuses on the realistic less idealistic view of romance. The heroes are not superhuman and the heroines are not expecting them to be. The romances in the stories are tingled with sadness, humour and quirkiness.

Each story has well developed characters which leave an impression on the reader. If you are looking for well written dialogue and twisty plots with a romantic focus I would recommend the aptly named Strange Courtships.
