Interview and 5* Review:The Keepers: Ethan- Rae Rivers Blog Tour

Rae Tour Schedule

Today I have the author of The Keepers Trilogy on my blog , Rae Rivers , who will be  talking to me about her writing and books.

Welcome Rae.

Author Interview

Author PhotWhat inspired you to start writing, Rae?

I’ve always had a love of storytelling. At first, it was something I did as a child when I needed to escape into my imaginary world where I had control over everything and could just have fun. As I grew older, the need to tell more stories grew stronger. It’s my calling, my passion, and one of the few things in my life that makes me feel alive with excitement. I love it!

Was becoming a published author important to you?

The older I got and the more I wrote, the more I enjoyed it. I began to wonder if my work was “good enough” to be considered for publication but as I never allowed anyone to read it (not even my husband or mother!) I had no feedback to work with. So when I finally plucked up the courage to submit my Keepers to a publisher and they offered a four book deal, I was thrilled. Slowly, my inner voice became an encouraging “I’ve got this.” I knew I had a lot to learn but they believed in me so that was huge! (And still is! ) So yes, for me being published – along with the incredible feedback from my readers – has been a huge confidence boost which has helped me grow as a person and a writer and turn a hobby into a dream career.

Series cover‘The Keepers: Ethan is your latest release and I think the last book in the series. Are you sad to reach the end, or is there going to be more books in the series?

The Keepers: Ethan is the end of the series and it’s with a bittersweet feeling that I wrap up this journey. I’ve worked with these characters for over three years and most of the time, they were at the forefront of my mind – it often felt like I was greeting old friends whenever I started my writing morning. Whilst writing all the books, there was some angst and stress (and sometimes tears too!) but I had the time of my life too. I’m delighted to reach the end of this journey and feel tremendously satisfied with how it all came together in the end, but I do feel a bit sad to say goodbye.

Do you have a special place where you like to write? Do you have a photograph of it to share with us?

I lMy office picive on a flower farm in the mountains so my surroundings are so inspirational. It’s quiet and peaceful and so perfect for an author. I have a home office which is kitted out with everything I need. It’s sunny and bright in the summer and dark and cosy in the winter. It’s my space, my haven, and I love it. But having said that, I’m also quick to grab my laptop and head for the outdoor patio, couch or even my bed. And with small children, I might even write beside the swimming pool too.

Is your writing process well defined or haphazard? Can you describe it?

Garden readingI think it’s a little of both. I had an overall outline for the entire series with certain highlights I wanted to reach – and a whole of blank spaces in between. But those blank spaced gave me room to create as I went along and I think the books turned out better because of them. Sometimes I write quickly and end up with a messy scene which I then have to carefully craft into a stronger one. Other times, I take a step back and plan a little more. As I’ve gained more experience, I tend to want to plan a bit more to ensure I’ve covered everything and given my characters and plot all the elements that make a good story.

Paranormal isn’t the only genre you write – you have also written a romantic suspense novel. Which genre appeals most to you as a writer and why is this?

I’m definitely a romance writer at heart but also love action and suspense too. I never thought I’d venture into the Paranormal scene until the day Sienna and her Keepers came to mind. Now I adore the genre as it gives me a lot of freedom to be creative. The rules can be shaped as I want and the possibilities for my “worlds” are endless. And best of all is that I’m able to combine my love of romance and suspense with the paranormal.

Apart from writing do you have any other things you love to do?

Definitely reading, movies and TV series! I enjoy the outdoors like waterskiing, hiking, boating etc. I love travelling – anywhere from a camp site to a fab hotel. I like a balance between socialising with friends and family, nights spent at home with my kids and hubby– and also having time alone.

What writing plans do you have for 2016?

I’m toying with various ideas and mapping out a plot line for another possible series. I’ve opened myself to the fictional world waiting for the story to take hold. For now, I’m wrapped up in Ethan’s release and school holidays but know when things settle down, there’ll be no stopping me. Watch this space!

She nodded, not trusting herself to speak.
Just as she thought he’d kiss her, he reached for her jacket and said, “Then let’s go.”

A portal to another world has opened, unleashing dangerous creatures on earth. A dark witch is out for revenge. The stakes are high, a war inevitable.

Paranormal My Review
If you’re a fan of The Keepers series, you will have eagerly anticipated ‘The Keepers: Ethan, I’ve just finished reading and it doesn’t disappoint.
All the players assemble for the final apocalyptic battle and there are so many twists and turns it leaves you breathless. Jenna and Ethan circle around each other, the only two singles on the Bennett Wine estate, drawn together by proximity and the dangers they face, the passion is sensual and adds a delicious sizzle to this action packed story.
Jenna who we met in ‘The Keepers: Declan’ is kick ass and her independence attracts Ethan, who still bears the guilt of his sister’s demise. Ethan, quieter than his brothers, has a determined, powerful presence that attracts Jenna and makes her heart rule her head.
Their journey into Ameera is exciting and informative, and gives the series an important new dimension, which increases the suspense and excitement. Ameera is a dark world, full of lost and often dangerous creatures that live in anarchy, the danger to humanity lies here and Jenna and Ethan have to face it head on. The supernatural displays are vivid and easy to imagine and I couldn’t put this book down until I’d finished.
There is a dynamic, romantic ending to this unique series, with memorable characters that I’m sorry to leave.
I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

22460060

Paranormal Blurb

Declan Bennett has zero tolerance for thieves. He and his brothers, the Keepers, are fiercely protective of their witch, Sienna, and their privacy.

So when Kate Carrigan breaks into their estate, he’ll be damned if he lets the little wildcat get away with it – especially after she seduced him three months ago, leaving him buck-naked in a New Orleans hotel. Declan wants payback – and some answers.

Before she was murdered, Kate’s mother ingrained it in her not to trust anyone. Kate’s magical powers make her a pawn in the war between good and evil, a war she’s always avoided. Declan is everything she’s been taught to fear, even if she can’t forget the memory of his touch that one night…

Trouble is brewing as the powers of evil regroup – bolder and hungrier than ever – and Kate is forced to choose a side.

Paranormal My Review

Read my reviews of:

The Keepers: Sienna (Prequel)

The Keepers Archer (Book 1)

The Keepers: Declan

The second book in, ‘The Keepers Trilogy focuses on Declan. He’s the wild brother who sought solace from his grief in bourbon and women. Kate was one of the women but she turned the tables on him, leaving him unrequited and with more questions than answers.
When they meet again, he has the upper hand and the sizzling chemistry between them threatens to explode.
Kate steps out of her comfort zone to follow the instructions given her by her dead mother. Meeting Declan again is unexpected but not entirely unwelcome but she hides her feelings, driven by the need to stay save from the wicked paranormals that ruthlessly pursue her.
Kate adds an interesting dimension to the Keepers and their elemental witch Sienna; her powers are different and untried by potentially threatening to the natural balance. Pursued by an evil warlock and his deranged but loyal warriors, she slowly realises her importance and isolation.
Declan pursues her to ensure she isn’t turned to the dark side but unfinished business between make the quest more pleasure then duty, even though he denies it to his brothers and himself.
This is darker than the previous books, and full of twists that mask the real danger that faces Kate, Sienna and the Keepers.
Kate is strong, opinionated and courageous. She grows into her powers as the story progresses and is a worthy adversary/lover for Declan.
Declan is an anti-hero and we all love those, but he is shows his true worth as he pursues and fights at Kate’s side as the story progresses.
This is a fast paced, classy paranormal tale, which makes me eagerly anticipate the final chapter in the trilogy, The Keepers; Ethan.

The Keepers by Rae Rivers.

Here’s a taster of what you can expect from The Keepers:Declan –

“You lied to me, misled me, attacked me,” Declan murmured, dipping his head toward hers, “but what we had three months ago wasn’t fake, was it?” Kate’s gaze faltered to his lips, heat pulsing between them. But she didn’t deny it.

5* Review: The Keepers: Sienna – Rae Rivers

This is the prequel to the Keepers series. I gave a 5* Review to The Keepers: Archer last year and  I am eagerly anticipating the next in series The Keepers: Declan due for release 12 June 2014.

For something is lurking in the forest…

Murder. Sorcery. Revenge.

And no one saw it coming.

Find out how it all began…

My Review

The Keepers: Sienna is a prequel to the trilogy. As a standalone read it is an interesting tale full of sensual tension, paranormal drama and vivid characters.
The paranormal elements of this novella are well thought out and the antagonist dark and evil. The atmosphere created by the author makes reading this story a sensual experience.

We meet The Keepers, Archer, Declan, Ethan and Sarah and explore the dynamic between them and Sienna before discovering why a tragic event in their shared past effects their future actions.

This story has additional significance if you read The Keepers: Archer released last year, first. It answers important questions about Sienna’s past, how she ends up alone hiding from her keepers and why she shuns her magical heritage.

5* Review The Keepers: Archer Rae Rivers

The Keepers: ArcherThe Keepers: Archer is an exciting book combining modern paranormal themes with excellent storytelling and the added complication of forbidden love. The expert weaving of action and dialogue never gives the reader time to relax.

The first book in a trilogy it successfully builds the paranormal world where the action, romance and stories take place. A page turner, which could easily be read in one go but to fully understand the paranormal world of ‘The Keepers and Witches’ I recommend a slower perusal.

Some ideas were alluded to but not fully explained in this first book. Whilst this is momentarily frustrating for the reader it is essential in a series whose overriding story isn’t concluded until the last line of the last book.

Sienna is a contemporary woman, the modern face of an ancient legacy of witches. She is a dichotomy; the powerful witch with a vulnerable heart. It is this susceptibility which threatens her well-being and the safety of those she cares for. She is an easy character to like as she strives to accept her fate.

Archer is the protector every woman dreams of; sexy, witty and fiercely loyal. His brothers and fellow Keepers Declan and Ethan are equally gorgeous and I can’t wait to see more of them in the next two books.

The sexual tension between Sienna and Archer is well written and the love scenes are sensual.

The antagonist is an important component of the story. Warrick the evil Warlock lives up to this potential and I defy you not to hate him by the end of the story.
The ending is action packed and notable as is the lead onto the next adventure.

If you like modern paranormal romance this is definitely for you.
The prequel The Keepers: Sienna is out 26 September 2013. I can’t wait to read and find out more about Sienna and her Keepers.
