The Silver Rose Dating Agency Angelena Boden 4* #Review @rararesources #Cozymystery #PeakDistrict #BlogTour #BookReview #MondayBlogs

When lonely widow Kitty Merriweather moves to Derbyshire’s Hope Valley, she joins the Silver Rose online dating site because it offers a safe place for the over sixties to find romance.

There, she meets the enigmatic Harvey, a scientist working on a conservation project in Bali who promises her “hot days and stormy nights.”

Love blooms quickly but Kitty breaks all the rules laid down by the agency, putting herself at risk. When little things don’t add up she dismisses them as being unimportant. Nothing matters more than her plans for them to live happily ever after.

When she confides in her new friend, Edna Reid, octogenarian and former café owner, Kitty gets angry at Edna’s implication she is likely the victim of a scam. The more Edna hears about Harvey, the more she is convinced he’s only interested in Kitty for her money.

Using her knowledge of computers Edna finally uncovers the truth, but where does black magic and murder fit into this intriguing cosy mystery?

My Thoughts…

This is an engaging multi-generational cosy mystery with topical messages in the plot. It’s the second book in the series but reads well as a standalone. Edna is a lady with a talent for mystery solving, a kind, recently bereaved woman.

Relatable characters reflect the setting and a well-paced mystery keeps you guessing. There’s a good mix of humour and poignancy. The quirkiness of this story will appeal to many.

Lasairiona McMaster grew up dreaming of an exciting life abroad, and, after graduating from Queens University, Belfast, that is exactly what she did – with her then-boyfriend, now husband of almost ten years. Having recently repatriated to Northern Ireland after a decade abroad spanned over two countries (seven and a half years in America and eighteen months in India), she now finds herself ‘home’, with itchy feet and dreams of her next expatriation. With a penchant for both travelling and writing, she started a blog during her first relocation to Houston, Texas and, since repatriating to Northern Ireland, has decided to do as everyone has been telling her to do for years, and finally pen a book (or two) and get published while she tries to adjust to the people and place she left ten years ago, where nothing looks the same as it did when she left.

My Thoughts

There is always an original zany charm in Zara Stoneley’s novels. Rosie is determined to end her boyfriendless state and turns to an online dating app because she’s a modern girl and knows that’s where she’ll meet the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, and not surprisingly, things do not go to plan, and she ends up embarrassingly alone at the bar. Noah never a man to miss an opportunity moves in for the charm offensive, and the two hit it off, as friends when he agrees to give out of practice Rosie, lessons on first dates.

What follows is often amusing, sometimes poignant and gently romantic. Rosie has issues about her father, which dominates her life, and stops her from being the person she could be. The characters are quirky but believable, and the plot has a few surprises.

Zara Stoneley

Zara Stoneley is the USA Today bestselling author of ‘The Wedding Date’.

She lives in a Cheshire village with her family, a lively cockapoo called Harry, and a very bossy (and slightly evil) cat called Saffron.

Born in a small village in the UK, Zara wanted to be a female James Herriot, a spy, or an author when she grew up. After many (many) years and many different jobs, her dream of writing a bestseller came true. She now writes about friendship, dreams, love, and happy ever afters, and hopes that her tales make you laugh a lot, cry a little, and occasionally say ‘ahhh’.

Zara’s bestselling novels include ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘No One Cancels Christmas’, ‘The Wedding Date’, ‘The Holiday Swap’, ‘Summer with the Country Village Vet’, ‘Blackberry Picking at Jasmine Cottage’ and the popular Tippermere series – ‘Stable Mates’, ‘Country Affairs’ and ‘Country Rivals’.
