4* Review: A Kiss in the Dark – Lisa Fox

25678438Poppy - BlurbGrace’s attraction to her new web designer, amateur boxer and all-around playboy, Ryan Granger, is off the charts. But the bad boy of programming is not someone she needs to get entangled with. She’s got too many responsibilities and no time for games. She has deadlines to meet and a sick father to care for. Ryan is tempting, but being with him is completely unrealistic. Still, a girl can fantasize, right?

Ryan wants Grace badly, but while he’s building her website, they have to keep things strictly professional. Thankfully, walking her home during a city-wide blackout is on his own time and whatever happens in the dark doesn’t count. He’s falling hard for Grace and he is a man used to winning. The only problem is, he’s got to convince her that he’s worthy of her trust.

Flowers - My Review

A Kiss In the DarkAn easy to read novella that delivers nicely written, contemporary escapism, perfect for the beach. Grace and Ryan are likeably imperfect and easy to warm to. The story’s New York setting adds an extra dimension and makes the couple’s unlikely meeting plausible.

Ryan is a web designer who also enjoys boxing. His fashionable job and trendy hobby, ramp up the escapism value of this story. Grace, a successful writer has family issues, which make her insular and guilty. Playboy Ryan is the perfect man to let her live a little. Something every girl needs. The scenes with Grace’s father are poignant, realistic and sensitively written.

Despite the story’s brevity, both character’s develop as a result of their interaction and the romantic ending is worthy of them and their emotional journey.

Meet Me at the Honeymoon Suite: HarperImpulse Contemporary Fiction (A Novella) (Do Not Disturb, Book 5)Wedding Planner Amy doesn’t believe in marriage but still wants to succeed in her chosen career and is prepared to put her life on hold to do it. Old boyfriends, a sexy best man and a haunted past, make Amy’s first wedding in charge, full of humorous, poignant and sexy encounters. Owen challenges her all work and no play philosophy. I enjoyed the other books in this ‘Do Not Disturb’ series and this final one is just as easy and pleasurable to read. The characters in this novella are complex and well crafted and the ending is fittingly romantic.

My Review -1

Awakening the Warriors (Legends of the Seven Galaxies #1.5)This is my first foray into the ‘Legends of the Seven Galaxies’ and it’s made me want to read more. Fran, a human who signs up for the new world project but is captured and imprisoned by aliens; escape looks unlikely unless she can awake the desire in her adjacent cell mates – The Darkon Warriors.
The characters are vivid. It’s easy to imagine Fran’s alien cell mates and the sexy warriors. There are some dark undertones in this short story; if Fran can’t get the warriors on her side she faces experimentation. The sexual encounters between the two Darkon warriors and Fran are explicit but sensually written from Fran’s point of view.
This is a short novella, a snapshot of the seven galaxies’ world. The fast paced plot’s important elements reach a satisfactory conclusion. However there some outstanding questions to be answered, presumably later in the series.

My Review

Steam Bunny, the debut novella from Felicity Kates is the first in the Little Miss Kick-Ass erotic novella series. I loved the originality of this story. Casey Jackson, promotional model to the enigmatic and very sexy author Lucas Haskell, takes us on her sensual journey in search of love. Full of erotic moments, this is a light-hearted novella with an outwardly wilful yet inwardly vulnerable heroine and an enigmatic but secretly soft-hearted hero.
Lovers as well as work colleagues, the couple have hit an impasse in their relationship. Casey loves Lucas but her aversion to marriage forces her decision to hang up her bunny costume and leave the man she loves. Lucas is determined to keep his Steam Bunny and will do whatever it takes, to make Casey stay.
Told from Casey’s point of view this is a humorous, naughty tale. An erotic quest for happy ever after. You may need to cool off when you’ve read this sizzler, which makes it the ideal quick, adult read for the beach or pool.
I look forward to the next in the series where we meet, two more larger than life characters.

5* Review: Wanton Wager – Christy Carlyle (Whitechapel Wagers Series)

22457485

Set against the backdrop of Victorian London’s dangerous East End, a young woman’s disappearance brings together a wounded war veteran and the one woman who can see beyond his scars.

Eight years later, desperate for a woman’s touch, he accepts a wager from a debauched nobleman, winning the chance to take the man’s mistress off his hands. Wanton Wager: A Whitechapel Wagers NovellaMy Review

‘Wanton Wager’ is the second novella in the Whitechapel Wagers series. Set in Victorian London at the time of the ‘Ripper Atrocities’ it succinctly conveys the seedier side of nineteenth century Whitechapel and the underlying danger from a serial killer who terrorizes its inhabitants.

The wager which Will Selsby reluctantly agrees to and wins leads him to a vibrant, if slightly sordid public house in Whitechapel. Will is war-weary and mentally and physically scarred. Ada lives above the pub and works tirelessly as a probationary nurse at the local charity hospital. She is at her wit’s end searching for her missing sister. Ada and Will’s unconventional meeting at the pub reveals surprising attraction and empathy between them despite Will’s questionable motives for being there.

There are some lovely touches in this novella like the sinister quality of Lord Frederick Ashdowne given that there is a serial killer on the loose. Ada and Will’s sizzling chemistry and the couple’s sensuous love scenes.

The vivid mannerisms of the secondary characters give the story ambience and depth. You can hear the unruly characters in the pub and feel the disdain of the heartlessness aristocrats.

This is a romantic love story of two characters that are easy to like with an interesting plot and atmospheric setting. It is definitely worth reading.

4* Review: Santa Wore Leathers – Vonnie Davis

Continuing my out of season reviews  with this gem from Vonnie Davis a delightful read.

Take one man-shy reporter, a gorgeous ex-Navy SEAL turned firefighter, add in a thong-stealing dog… and Christmas will never be the same again!

There’s only one thing on Becca Sinclair’s Christmas list this holiday season – her very own column in the local paper. And if she can build a huge blog following, her wish just might come true.

Enter Dan ‘Wolf’ Wolford aka the man-whore next door and the new star of Becca’s popular, post-divorce blog about men. A Navy SEAL turned commander of the Florida Marine Rescue Unit, Wolf’s the very definition of the word alpha – and with an endless rotation of women on his doorstep, this hunk on a Harley has Becca and her female followers all hot and bothered!

All Becca wants for Christmas is her newspaper column, right? But when she finds herself the target of Wolf’s irresistible attentions, her snarky comebacks become less and less convincing and, suddenly, she’s not so sure anymore…

My Review

Santa Wore LeathersThe title and cover of ‘Santa Wore Leathers’ drew me right into this book even though I read it out of season.
Becca, a reporter still hurting from her failed marriage uses her witty blog to further her career. The current subject is her new neighbour an undoubtedly sexy man with the morals of an alley cat. Einstein her lovable German Shepherd dog is a delight. His penchant for stealing Becca’s sexy underwear and notable matchmaking skills appeals to all the doggy lovers like me.
When Becca meets Dan a.k.a. Wolf she feels an instant attraction but is unwilling to set herself up for another fall. Dan is smitten and determined to charm her into his bed. Misunderstandings and interventions from senior neighbours all add to the humour and complexity of this love story.
This not a traditional Christmas romance, the sentiment and goodwill attached to the season are interwoven into the storyline but the powerful interplay between Becca and Wolf as they learn to trust takes centre stage. The plot and characters are well developed and it reads more like a novel than a novella.
‘Santa Wore Leathers’ is a sexy, feel good romance. A recommended read whatever the season.

4 *Review: One Kiss – Lisa Fox

I know New Year’s Eve 2014 is in the past now but I couldn’t resist reading and reviewing this contemporary romance novella from Lisa Fox. Here’s why 🙂

Sometimes one kiss can change everything.

New Year’s Eve is supposed to be a night for celebration and new beginnings. For best friends Kat and Dean, it is a nightmare filled with disastrous dates and enraged ex-girlfriends!

Lucky for them, they’ve got each other to help laugh off the embarrassing, and downright inappropriate, moments. But then midnight rolls around and neither of them have anyone to kiss…

There’s no doubt this is a night they will always remember.

The real question is whether it will be a night they want to forget…

One KissMy Review

‘One Kiss’ is a short romantic tale about the magic of New Year’s Eve turning friends into the lovers they should be. Set in New York, best friends and work colleagues Kat and Dean are always there for each other.

Kat a workaholic lives alone except for her emotional baggage. She sees a  lonely future ahead its safer that way she won’t get her heart-broken again. Dean is from a loving family and he sees his future with a loving wife and kids. He is perfect hero material, clever, sexy and totally devoted to Kat. Their relationship is strictly platonic but they still fantasise.

Kat and Dean’s emotionally developed characters give the story its poignancy and depth. The chemistry between them is electric and their sexy wake-up call well written. Circumstances conspire to make one kiss at New Year inevitable but the desired happy ending seems unlikely when Kat’s fears surface.

A quick sexy read full of great support characters and a tender love story a fabulous way to start any new year.
