Author Interview: Jennifer De Cuir

Author Interview

72550559781440588686Today I’m welcoming Jennifer De Cuir to my blog. Jennifer’s fourth novel Trapped in Tourist Town was released on 5 January and it’s a wonderful read.

 Here’s my 5* review..

Now to find out a little more about Jennifer.

Did you always want to be a writer? Can you tell us what influenced your career choice?

I’ve always been writing. Ever since I used to fill up notebooks from about sixth grade on. Actually having a book published probably wasn’t on my radar until my early 20’s.

What would you like your potential readers to know about Jennifer De Cuir?

I’m a terrible introvert in person, but can’t seem to shut up on social media. Ha! Go figure.

What inspired you to write your latest novel – ‘Trapped in Tourist Town”?

Believe it or not, this was actually the first novel in my Scallop Shores series. I always meant to tell Cady’s story first. Harlequin American Romance shot it down and it took me years to get up the nerve to give it a good rewrite.

So glad you did it’s a lovely story.

Do your wonderful characters and stories evolve purely from imagination, or are they based on people you have met and places you have been?

My characters come to me and ask for their story to be told (well, sometimes they ask, sometimes they demand). So far all the stories in the SS series are based on my hometown on the coast of Maine.

What is your favourite time of day to write?

I am a late night WEENIE! Usually can’t stay awake much past nine PM. So my favourite time of day to write is early morning. Bonus points if I am the first one up and the house is eerily silent.

Tell us a little about ‘Trapped in Tourist Town’.

Trapped is about Cady, a small town girl with dreams of big adventures in the city. Until she meets Burke, a travel journalist from the city, who helps her learn to appreciate the benefits of family, community and a chance at happily ever after without ever leaving home.

What writing tips helped you to become a published author?

Don’t give up. Write every day. Join a local chapter of RWA (or its equivalent) to connect with fellow writers (it gets very lonely sitting at that computer every day!)

I really enjoyed reading ‘Five of Hearts’. What other books have you written?

The first book in the Scallop Shores series is Drawn to Jonah and then after Five of Hearts came Wynter’s Journey. I’m currently writing the last book in the series, Always My Hero.

Where can your readers connect with you on social media?

I’m an obsessive checker of Facebook.
Still learning the ropes on Twitter
I am a very visual person and LOVE to be able to share some of how I see my Scallop Shores world on Pinterest

When you’re not writing do you enjoy reading? What’s your favourite type of story?

I wouldn’t be much of a writer if I didn’t love to read. 😉 I make it a point to be early everywhere I go, just so I have a chance to sit and read for a few minutes here and there, throughout my day.
My favourite indulgence is time travel romance, or rereading The Hobbit or the Harry Potter series (when I can wrestle a book away from my 10 year old).

5* Review – Trapped in Tourist Town (Scallop Shores) Jennifer De Cuir

UntitledCady has been saving up all her life to move out of her small town and start a new, exciting, life in the city. She just needs a little extra cash to get her there. So when travel reporter, Burke Sanders, arrives to do a series of articles about her little tourist map dot, Cady offers to show him the sights from a local’s perspective, if he will hire her on as an assistant. Burke is from the city, so when it’s clear their working relationship is getting a lot more complicated, Cady starts to imagine what it would be like for the two of them to ride off into the sunset together. The only problem is that Burke falls hard for Cady AND for Scallop Shores, and this world-weary traveler has decided he can definitely see himself living in this small town and trading journalism for his real passion — writing a horror novel. Burke only has a few months to convince Cady that all the fun and excitement she could ever want is already right in front of her, along with a love that will last a lifetime.

My Review 2Trapped in Tourist TownThis is my second visit to Scallop Shores and again, the realistic, memorable characters and friendly small town setting make absorbing reading. This is a story about seeing what you have from a new perspective.

Well loved by all the town’s residents Cady is tired of living under the eagle glare of a small community and longs for the anonymity of the big city. She isn’t sure what she wants when she gets there but is determined she will.

Burke has a dream job. As a travel writer he spends his life in breathtaking places. His visit to Scallop Shores is a departure from the norm. Surprised by the variety of small town life Burke discovers a sense of family he’s never experienced. The sense of community is very much in evidence when danger threatens the townsfolk.

This is such an atmospheric story; you can smell the coffee brewing in the bakery, taste the mouth watering pastries as the coastal air blows against you.

There is plenty of sizzle between Cady and Burke, interwoven with lovely romance. Cady makes Burke see New York as he never has. Can he recapture the magic of Scallop shores for her, or is their love over before it begins?

It’s a sweetly romantic tale with a clever plot and lots of unexpected adventure.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

5* Review Five of Hearts (Scallops Shores)

Author Bio7255055Jennifer DeCuir writes small town contemporary romances while wrangling two kids, a husband, and three neurotic pets. She lives in the Pacific Northwest, where she can never get enough sunshine or caffeine. Her Scallop Shores series, published by Crimson Romance, is based on her hometown of York, Maine. When she isn’t writing or reading, she is probably adding to her obsessively huge yarn stash and wondering what gifts she’s going to crochet for Christmas this year.

5* Review Five of Hearts Jennifer De Cuir

9781440579608 Five Hearts Jennifer De Cuir I was asked by Crimson Romance author Jennifer De Cuir to review her latest story Five of Hearts which is  a Scallops Shore novel. Here’s what the story’s about:
Being a celebrity had taught Dean that women only wanted him for his money and fame. They weren’t interested in him as a person. And they would use any sneaky means at their disposal to get what they wanted – including false paternity suits. Fed up, Dean moves to the other side of the country, to a small town on the coast of Maine. Surely he wouldn’t be bothered here.
Shannon has no use for men. Her father left when she was very little and her husband took off the minute the ultrasound revealed they weren’t having one baby, but three babies at once. She could handle it all on her own, thank you very much. But living up here on the bluff got lonely, even with her rambunctious triplets. And if she spent a little time with the hunky new guy next door, that was just being neighborly, right?
Dean’s idyllic new life was not supposed to include the hot neighbor-lady’s children sneaking into his yard every day. But the more time he spent with the triplets and their stubbornly independent mama, the more he realized his new hermit lifestyle may not have been the best choice. With Shannon, he could trust again. She was genuinely interested in him, not his fame. Of course, that could be because he’d neglected to tell her about his former life as the lead singer of the boy band, Five of Hearts. When she found out, would she forgive him for hiding something so important from her? Would she believe he did it to protect himself? Would she still love him… for him?

My Review

Five of HeartsFive of Hearts is an absorbing, feel good romance with a feisty, courageous heroine and a sexy mysterious hero.

Dean a former boy band superstar is tired of paparazzi, gold diggers and everyone looking to him to maintain their golden lifestyle. The quiet coastal community of Scallops Shore is his chance for solitude and seclusion. Enter a trio of noise, mischief and fun. Shannon the triplets’ mother and the caretaker from the cottage next door is a visual delight and despite his misgivings he finds himself drawn to the fiercely independent woman and her children along with rest of Scallop shores characters who show him the true meaning of community. Dean is keeping secrets from Shannon but the one that threatens to divide them forever is not the one he’s worried about.

Shannon’s past experience has labelled men as untrustworthy and why should the sexy surfer guy next door be any different? Tough through necessity she always puts her children first. Dean’s reticence to be neighborly challenges Shannon she wants to know what he’s hiding. Dean makes Shannon question her choices and wonder what else she can have in her life. A spectre from the past threatens Shannon’s peace of mind.

The characters are interesting and you empathise with the dilemmas they face. The attraction Dean and Shannon feel is a surprise for both of them and its left to the wonderful cast of support characters to chivvy them into each other arms. Full of gentle twists and turns this is a page turning read I couldn’t put down until I’d finished.

Five of Hearts is the first Scallop Shore novel I have read. I ‘m definitely looking forward to the next one in the series.

I received an arc of Five of Hearts from the author in exchange for an honest review.
