Safety in his arms?

In this First Response in Florida story, vet Lucy is happy with her quiet, ordered life. Until a tropical storm threatens her Florida Keys animal sanctuary, and the arrival of gorgeous, yet guarded, emergency medic Jackson Durand brings disorder – and desire!

My Thoughts…

A story focusing on Lucy, a vet who runs an animal shelter in the Florida Keys. She left her familial home to escape a controlling relationship and a family who don’t offer the support she needs to further her independence. Jackson is an EMT whose commitment issues stem from his childhood. The setting is the build-up of a tropical storm to a hurricane forcing the couple into close physical proximity.

The scenes in the medical setting are atmospheric, but the animal shelter needs a greater focus. Lucy and Jackson are complex characters. The setting ensures that the reader gets to understand them despite the brief time period.

There’s an undeniable attraction with a passionate outcome and the sought after emotional connection.

My Thoughts…

This is my first book in the Oakdale series. Fraser moves to the Lake District to keep his teenage daughter Lily out of trouble. He is a supportive father, which is even more important since her mother’s death. Fraser has a complex backstory involving Bri, a nurse at his new workplace. Initially, antagonist, the couple cannot deny their attraction. Both have trust issues, but an unexpected outcome forces them to think again.

The plot is contemporary and relatable, with believable characters. The well-paced story reveals a heartwarming family drama. The romance is sensual and full of internal and external conflicts which take the couple on an emotional journey to a lovely romantic conclusion.

My Thoughts…

This is an engaging romantic story. The two main characters are easy to like, and you feel their angst. Their emotional pain diminishes as their relationship develops into friends and something more. The animals and Ruby and Kern’s affinity for them give the story its unique quality. There’s a relatable cast of supporting characters most likeable, one notably not.

This is an emotional story with great characters and gentle healing romance.
