My Review -1

Touched to the depths

Finally, ‘Touched to the Depths’ explores the tantalising mystery hinted at in the first three books. With sinister elements, this story is darker than the earlier stories. Hannah is a model whose life has been lived in the shadows, since an unfortunate event two years previously. Her brief but passionate liaison with Darryn, the dark and moody Cavallo brother is part of the reason but Hannah’s secret is much darker and threatens her and those she loves.
There is a delicate balance of back-story and present day in this book, which elaborates on scenes from earlier stories but this time from Hannah’s point of view. Her secretive behaviour is borne out of love for her family and the surly Darryn but is it safe to share her secrets or must she face the danger alone?
There is a strong psychological thriller element in this final story due the unbalanced mental state of the antagonist. This coupled with Hannah’s independence and fierce loyalty to those she loves makes for a page turning read. Danger lurks in every page and Hannah although courageous is an exasperating heroine at times.
Darryn is the last Cavallo brother to admit he is in love and this almost costs him his future happiness. His arrogance and dismissal of Hannah’s career proves to be a major source of conflict and one that must be resolved if they are ever to be happy.
This is a great finale to an enjoyable series.
I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

5* Review Touched to the Core – Elsa Winckler

My review of the third book in the ‘Touched’ series by Elsa Winckler

27782219

Winter Blurb

Schoolteacher Dana Roux doesn’t need sexy hotel tycoon David Cavallo to add to her troubles. They have absolutely nothing in common—she’s a simple schoolteacher in a small coastal town, and he has more money than he knows what to do with. Besides, as a former journalist, he’d remember the news stories about her dad’s alleged involvement in a dirty, Ponzi-like scheme, and his subsequent suicide. The last thing she wants is for the dark shadow of that scandal—and tragedy—to fall upon her once again. Especially since she knows her dad was innocent.

For David, flirting with a beautiful woman comes as naturally as breathing. So when he winds up kissing his sister-in-law’s best friend, he realizes Dana isn’t just another pretty pair of lips. But things between them get complicated quickly when he discovers who her father was, and that it was David’s own news story that blew the case wide open and sent her father to jail—and to his death. David’s not sure what to believe, but he knows he can’t let Dana blame him forever. Especially since she insists her father was an innocent man. But when Dana’s life is threatened, he realizes that he might not have uncovered the whole story. And that now, older and wiser, he just might be the only one who can uncover the truth.

Winter My Review

Touched to the core (Touched #3)

This third story in the ‘Touched’ series features Dana, not a Sutherland sister but definitely an honorary member of the Sutherland clan. Her past is fraught with scandal, heartache, and a tragedy that has left her always trying to prove something. She hates the investigative journalist who blew the whistle on her father, and inadvertently caused his death.
Dana’s quest to prove her father’s innocence has left her little time for romance but she cannot forget David, another of the dynamic Cavallo brothers. Especially when he wants to help her but does he have an ulterior motive?
Packed with dramatic irony, you empathise with Dana as her feelings for David threaten her fragile emotional state. As the mystery of her father’s premature death unfolds the suspense, is nail biting and the danger Dana unwittingly faces gives this story a menacing edge. Dana and David’s relationship is passionate and volatile, especially when his over protective tendencies force Dana into reckless behaviour to reassert her independence.
Amidst the fast-paced action, there is the reassuring constant of the two-matchmaking mama’s ensuring that Dana and David have their happy ever after.

Touched to the Soul – Elsa Winckler 5* Review

Here’s my second book review for Elsa Winckler’s Touched series ‘Touched to the Soul,’

26056094

Blurb 2016- 2

A passion that runs soul deep…

Zoe Sutherland can’t stand the pushy, arrogant architect Dale Cavallo. He was just too damn sure of himself, too handsome, too…everything. Maneuvered into working as the interior decorator on his latest project, a glamorous new hotel, Zoe can’t keep her mind on the job. And worse, the strange man won’t give her access to the hotel’s floor plans. How is she supposed to finish the design when she doesn’t have the plans? And when the obnoxious man distracts her with every smoldering look, every touch…

Dale has one goal: get rid of the pesky interior designer. Since he’s been forced into close proximity with the beautiful Zoe, everything’s gone downhill. And to make matters worse, she’s only out to further her own career—and he’s not about to give her the hotel’s plans so she can steal his ideas. He needs to get her out of his system, and sleeping with her seems like the best way to do that. When it comes to women, he’s found the best way to handle them is to love ’em and leave ’em. But something strange is happening…because after a night of loving Zoe, he’s finding it harder than ever to leave…

My Review

Touched to the Soul

Reading ‘Touched to the Heart’ the first book in this series got me hooked on the sexy Cavallo brothers and the feisty Sutherland sisters. ‘Touched to the Soul’ is Zoe and Dale’s story, who met in book one where they seemed to repel more than attract. However, neither is being honest and when they are thrown together the sensual tension is off the scale.
If you enjoy watching love grow between glamorous couples, this is for you. The worlds of interior design and boutique hotels collide. The exchanges between Zoe and Dale are full of amusing dialogue, sizzling interaction and serious conflict that makes a happy ever for the couple seems unlikely. However, fairy godmothers in the form of Zoe’s mum and Rosa, Dale’s mum have other ideas.
Glimpses of the other Sutherland sister and their best friend’s lives enhance this passionate love story, making reading the next book in the series mandatory.
The other star of this book and the series is the setting. The descriptions are not extensive but you get wonderful glimpses of life in South Africa, which makes these stories distinctive.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

4* Review:The Shaman’s Temptation – Erin Moore

The Shaman’s Temptation was my Friday read this week.

18523539

A Shaman’s temptation could be the undoing of his people…

Madeleine Greenway, perfectionist and analyst for Surety Bank, has no place in her rigidly organized life for something as unpredictable as a man, much less a Native American shaman. Sent to the White Mountain reservation to help the tribe finance its new casino, she meets Tak, a proud, beautiful Apache, and finds herself surrounded by something magical in the Arizona desert. His touch becomes a passport to otherworldly bliss, and the strange coyote she sees makes her question what’s real. But it’s the amazing sex with Tak that makes Madeleine lose sight of her goal—to guarantee that Surety Bank’s investment in the casino won’t fail.

Last in a long line of shaman shape-shifters, Tak Nah-Kah-Yen has sworn a vow of celibacy to his gods. But Madeleine’s lithe body and honeyed lips compel him to forswear his pledge, claiming her for his own. His passion for her overshadows his link to his gods at a time when he most needs their help. Desperate to find funding for the casino and lift his people out of poverty, he’d accepted start-up money from less than savory sources who are willing to kill to guarantee their profit—the profit Madeleine’s bank jeopardizes…

The Shaman's TemptationMy Review

The Shaman’s Temptation is a sensual paranormal romance defined by its beautiful imagery and mystique.
Madeleine’s career as a top financial analyst is her life, the last person who would expect to have visions of a mystery lover. It is this dichotomy that makes you read on. Sexy and enigmatic Tak affects Madeleine in a wholly disturbing way. A Shaman and the last of his kind he hides his true self behind an uncommunicative, brooding exterior.
The dream sequences and love scenes are a clever fusion of passion and romance. The sensual connection between Madeleine and Tak transcends their everyday persona, something mystical  is at work here. This is in stark contrast to the reality of the tribe’s poverty and financial sharks willing to exploit them.
I enjoyed the mystical elements in this story and would have loved to explore these in greater detail. The ending was an interesting clash of paranormal and reality but it was a little abrupt. This story leaves the reader wanting more. I wonder if there could be a sequel to this novella to expand the paranormal character and see how the fledgling relationship between Madeleine and Tak plays out. I would love to see more of them and the coyote.
I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

5* Review Loving Lady Lazuli Shehanne Moore

I was lucky enough to win a copy of Shehanne Moore’s new release Loving Lady Lazuli in a recent giveaway. Here’s a little about the story:

Loving Lady Lazuli‘Only one man in England can identify her. Unfortunately he’s living next door.

Ten years ago sixteen year old Sapphire, the greatest jewel thief England has ever known, ruined Lord Devorlane Hawley’s life. Now she’s dead and buried, all the respectable widow, Cassidy Armstrong, wants is the chance to prove who she really is.

But not only does her new neighbor believe he knows that exactly, he’s hell-bent on revenge. All he needs is the actual proof. So when he asks her to choose between being his mistress, or dangling on the end of a rope, only Sapphire can decide…

What’s left for a woman with nowhere left to go, but to stay exactly where she is?

And hope, that when it comes to neighbors, Devorlane Hawley won’t prove to be the one from hell.’

My Review
Loving Lady Lazuli is a tense, character driven historical romance which gives the reader a unique perspective on life and love in Regency England. The power of society and its harshness when crossed is implicit from the first chapter. Lord Devorlane Hawley returns to his ancestral home ten years after he left in disgrace. Now the unexpected fifth Duke of Chessington he wants revenge for his ten years of exile where severe mistreatment changed him from a naive youth to a cynical man.
The prodigal is thrown into an unexpected home-coming party. Bored a young woman attracts him. Is she the girl who caused his disgrace a decade ago? Cassidy fears her secret is uncovered and leaves the party abruptly. With the threat of the noose for being a jewel thief hanging over her Cassidy (Sapphire) tries to find the documents that prove her claim to Barwych hall.
Their relationship is laced with misunderstanding, humour and poignancy. Both distrust, threaten and cheat each other. Devorlane demands she becomes his mistress for his silence and help. Cassidy (Sapphire) agrees until she discovers his life threatening secret and reclaims the advantage. The historical attraction between Devorlane and Cassidy (Sapphire) rekindles and ignites despite his hateful behaviour and her scheming. When their passion overwhelms secrets emerge which affect them profoundly and make them face their emotional involvement.
Memorable characters give this unusual historical romance a realistic edge which make Loving Lady Lazuli a passionate, enthralling read.
I won a copy of this book from the author in a giveaway.

Loving Lady Lazuli

Shehanne Moore

Shehanne Moore is a Scottish author, who writes gritty, witty, as much risky as risqué, historical romance, set wherever takes her fancy. Stories that detail the best and worst of human behaviour, as opposed to pouts and flounces. For years she worked at various things, while pursuing her dream of becoming a published writer, so she was gobsmacked to sell her book, The Unraveling of Lady Fury, written in three months, to U.S. publishers, Etopia Press, six days after subbing it.
Shehanne still lives in Scotland, with her husband Mr Shey. She has two daughters. When not writing intriguing historical romance, where goals and desires of sassy, unconventional heroines and ruthless men, mean worlds do collide, she fantasizes about cleaning the house, plays the odd musical instrument and loves what in any other country, would not be defined, as hill-walking.

5* Review The Unraveling of Lady Fury Shehanne Moore

The Unraveling of Lady FuryThe Unraveling of Lady Fury is edgy historical romance distinctive and original.

Lady Fury is a delight. Outwardly strong and driven; safe behind her impenetrable shell which cloaks past hardship and abuse and a broken heart that bleeds whenever she thinks about her first lover. She is intelligent used to living on her wits to survive fate’s constant curve balls.

Captain Flint is an enigma whose piratical ways leave devastation in his wake from plundered treasure and ladies’ hearts. Image is everything especially where Lady Fury is concerned.

Closer acquaintance with this vibrant realistic pair and you see they are Yin and Yang different but vital for the other to flourish.

Lady Fury must produce the Beaumont heir and secure her future. Thrown into the middle of an unusual talent contest where Fury vets the potential donors the reader empathises with her predicament. Like so many of her sisters she must barter her body and freedom to avoid destitution.

Flint reappearance throws Fury’s life into disarray. He took her innocence and her heart and left her empty and desolate.

Flint offers his services for a price. Can Fury risk her heart again? Only if Flint obeys her rules designed to strip the procreative act of romance, sensuality and ecstasy. Does she succeed? Read the book you won’t be disappointed.

Laced with sharp humour the dialogue entertains. Plot changes make it an absorbing read and a refreshing insight on Regency romance.
