Sweetest Temptation is book 2 in the Sweet Delights Series and is now only £0.99 for a limited time. Have some fun in the Sweet Delights Bakery with Vanessa and Jake!
My Review -1Sweetest Temptation (Sweet Delights Series, #2)Sensual romance, believable characters and a well paced plot makes ‘Sweetest Temptation’, the perfect naughty extravagance for all lovers of romantic comedy.
The setting in the Sweet Delights bakery is atmospheric and provides the perfect backdrop for Vanessa’s journey of self realisation. Jake may not be what he seems but he is a much needed ingredient, in Vanessa’s lack lustre life. The sensual attraction and diversity between Jake and Vanessa is compelling. The characters are imaginable and easy to like, you want, what they want and it’s hard to put this book down because of this.
The imagery in this romantic tale is vivid, especially of Jake; what is it about a man and physical labour that’s so absorbing … Whatever it is the author captures it in ‘Sweetest Temptation’ and makes Jake, as iconic, as the man in the diet coke ad.
There is realistic detail about the bakery and Vanessa’s culinary creations, give this story its authenticity. The secondary characters add the feel good ambience and help demonstrate, Jake and Vanessa’s motivations perfectly.
So treat yourself for a couple of hours and sample, the sweet delights of this lovely story.

Excerpt -2Gripping the woman’s wrist, Jake managed to restrain her before the weapon made impact with his head again. He shoved his upper body forward and flipped them both over.
Now this was much better. Or it would be if she’d quit squirming. Not that it was a bad sensation or anything, but he was starting to enjoy this more than the situation should allow.
With one hand free, her fingers scrabbled at the side of her. When her fingers wrapped around the torch he snatched it out of reach. He grasped her wrist and yanked both of her arms over her head, holding her captive with one much larger hand than her daintier ones.
Picking up the torch, he pointed it at the large, temple-throb causing weapon. As he read the first line on the bag he snorted in disbelief. Clearly she was a novice in the weapon department.
“A confectionery product? What the hell was that meant to be—death by chocolate?”
“God no,” said the muffled, completely aghast voice from beneath her mound of hair. “I would never hit someone with chocolate.”
Okay, so maybe she wasn’t a threat to anyone at all. Jake released his grip a little.
“Chocolate is way too expensive to waste,” she continued. “I hit you with a catering pack of marzipan.”
He tightened his hold again. With her still wrestling beneath him, he decided out of fear for his man parts, it was time for some answers. Reaching out with his free hand, he brushed the silky strands from her face. She bucked beneath him like a stray cat fighting for freedom. At first he thought she was furious, but then he gazed into her green eyes and saw fear.
Although he took his work seriously—hell, sometimes caution had kept him alive—no way was he a monster. Waiting for her movements to abate he lifted his chest. In one smooth movement he traded position and surrounded her hips with his legs, trying to take away the intimate contact steering him from sound judgement, yet still stifling her leg movements with the grip of his thighs. Resting more on his knees than pressing his full weight into her, the increased gap between them gave him the perfect opportunity for another perusal of her small frame.
With her arms upstretched, her small breasts raised higher with each dragged in breath. Her shirt, trapped beneath his knees, pulled taut and had lifted to reveal her scarlet knickers and a hint of smooth, pale skin peeking above. He blinked. Maybe the glorious sight was a figment of his imagination due to his recent lack of female companionship? His gaze drew to her parted lips, open to allow the release of expended energy from her lungs. The fullness of her bottom lip was so damned tempting.
“Anytime you want to get the hell off me—please feel free.”
Her sarcasm cut through his momentary lapse. One more second and he’d have been tasting her mouth.
“Tell me who you are, and why the hell you think you have a right to be on private property, and maybe I will.” Just maybe.
With her fingers clenching beneath his palm, he felt the spike of her pulse at the pad of his thumb.
“Me tell you?” She blinked several times before glaring at him as though he’d just sprouted bunny ears. “I live here!”

 My Review

Dating in the Dark (Sweet Delights Series Book 1)‘Dating in the Dark’ is an intriguing title. The story behind it is full of angst, humour and sexy romance.

Damian is a dynamic hero, with strong reasons for wanting to remain in the shadows. Dating is the last thing on his mind but a serendipitous phone call introduces him to Sophie who woos him with her voice. With plenty of stirring from his lovely sister Vanessa he seems willing to rejoin the dating scene but only on his terms. Damian wants to have his cake and eat it and ‘Dating in the Dark’ is his solution to dating Sophie whilst remaining incognito. Sophie has her own issues but radiates positivity and tenacity. What holds her back are her naivety and tolerance of unacceptable behaviour from her boss.

Vanessa’s sweet delights definitely have cupid qualities. There are some unusual dating scenarios in this story and lots of sweet loving. Cleverly woven into this romantic tale are the current obsession with celebrity and the intrusive behaviour of the tabloid press.

This first tale in the ‘Sweet Delights series’ has all the ingredients for sweet yet spicy romance. I look forward to next batch of sweet delights.

DatingInTheDark_Medium
Hello Jane and thank you for hosting me today.
When I’m writing it often involves the consumption of calories, as words and food are the perfect combination. Or is that just me? So when I decided to tackle a new project it seemed only right that I should bring words and food together and decorate them with a sprinkle of romance.
Welcome to the Sweet Delights Bakery, where the kitchen gets hot and there’s tastiness aplenty! First to sample the delights of the bakery are Sophie and Damian. Secrets are laced with sugar in Dating in the Dark, book 1 of the Sweet Delights Series.

Damian rested his arm across his forehead and sighed, trying to blot out the ringing sound and failing. Sleep wasn’t happening. He ached from his walk after pushing it to a run. With each step he’d remembered Sophie’s voice. He had very little else to occupy his mind, so she was an easy focus. Every stride had gathered pace, and before he knew it a walk had become a jog; a jog becoming a run.
And her voice was still inside his head.
Stretching out on the creaky sofa bed, he winced at the movement. Irritated, he tugged the sheet down from his bare chest to lean over and grab the phone. He placed it to his ear and muttered something unintelligible.
“Hi, sorry—did I wake you?”
“Sophie?” Or was he asleep and dreaming?
“Oh, crap. I did, didn’t I? I’m so sorry. I couldn’t sleep, so I thought… Anyway, my apologies. Pretend it never happened, and goodnight,” she said, speeding over her words.
“Sophie, wait!” he called out, wanting to stop her before she hung up, needing to listen to her voice for a little while longer. “I couldn’t sleep either,” he reassured her as he heard her soft breaths. He shuffled higher against his pillow and propped one hand behind his head. Why couldn’t she sleep? Because of him? And how had she gotten his number?
“Really?” Her relieved sigh made him smile. If he wasn’t careful, smiling could become a habit of his. “When you left your number in the box, I thought…”
Left his number? He had no idea what his number was.
“What did you think?”
“I thought you might want me to call?” she asked hesitantly, as if she was worried about his response. She wouldn’t be worried if she could see the stirring going on beneath the sheet. Or maybe she would be? Though she seemed confident, he still detected a shyness behind her words.
“And did you want to call?”
“I did.”
His jaw clenched at her immediate response, a muscle flickering in his cheek. Interesting. Her honesty was evoking things inside that he was starting to like. A lot.
“I like hearing your voice.”
Christ, what was she doing to him?
“What do you look like?” he asked, without thinking about the repercussions of his question.
Silence.
“Does that matter?” she said quietly, the warmth in her tone dropping a degree or two.
“No, no it doesn’t.” He frowned, the admission taking him by surprise. “Tell me what you’re wearing instead.”
“Why?”
“Because if you don’t tell me you’re wearing something hideous, I won’t be sleeping for the rest of the night either.”
She laughed then, the sound not helping his libido whatsoever. “Damian.”
“Yeah.”
“I’m not wearing anything hideous.” He groaned then, obviously out loud because Sophie was laughing again. “I’m not wearing anything.”
Oh, hell. A sudden spike of desire sliced through his veins, making him regret his impulsive words. “Then I’m now very grateful I don’t know what you look like.”
“You could. Know what I look like I mean.”
“You want to tell me now?”
“No. I want to show you. On a…date?”
Damian lifted a hand to his face, massaging his fingers above his brow, then lower to scrub over his jaw. His breath felt restricted by his tightening lungs. As much as he wanted to see her, to touch her, to have someone touch him in a way that wasn’t clinical or trying to fix him—he couldn’t do it. How could he see her, without her seeing him?

Holly carried a tray holding freshly ground coffee. The plush carpeted corridor absorbed the tension in her legs as she headed to Max Lazzari’s office. Dragging air deep into her lungs, she inhaled the aroma of coffee, allowing it to invigorate her senses.
Must be professional, she reminded her lust-filled brain, though her body’s reactions were refusing to comply.
Balancing the tray on one of her not quite controlled arms, Holly sucked in a breath before knocking on the door.
“Come in.” His deep tone made her tray wobble. She watched with wide eyes as the coffee almost sloshed over the rim of the cup, then watched how the ripples of liquid aftershock mirrored the way her insides felt.
Complete turmoil.
She opened the door and looked at the man with his dark head dipped to the computer screen. “Your coffee, Mr. Lazzari.” The door fell closed behind her. Her brow furrowed when she spotted the full coffee pot plugged into the machine behind him.
His keen green eyes, hooded beneath long lashes, were lifted up at her.
She carried the tray over to set it on the desk. “I believe you wanted to speak to me about an upcoming function. Which function would that be?”
He rose, startling her. Her shaky fingers still gripped the tray, but now her hold whitened her knuckles. The cup rattled.
“This one,” his husky voice said. With a grin he took her chin in his hand and captured her mouth with his. He dropped his hand, bracing both of them on the desk to kiss her more thoroughly, more deeply.
Holly allowed arousal to cascade through her, absorbing the softness and skill of his lips as he teased and swept, offering her the taste she’d been craving. She lifted her hand to thread her fingers through the dark hair at his nape.
God, she’d been waiting for this.
Arching closer, her thighs dug hard into the desk edge. She tilted her head, inviting him deeper. If her darned pencil skirt wasn’t so tight she’d have crawled over the desk by now. She heard a soft groan. Hers.
“Missed me?” Max chuckled as he gave her his now familiar lopsided grin. The one she held in her memory to help her through the weeks.
“I did,” she confirmed, frowning as she mourned the loss of his lips. “There was an extra day in this month.”
She rested her palms over his jaw, covering the dimples in his tanned cheeks. She liked the feel of his smooth, clean shaven skin, the warmth against her needy hands.
“But you broke the rules, Mr. Lazzari. Absolutely no touching at work, remember?”

Employee of the MonthMy Review

‘Employee of the Month’ is a sensuous, romantic story. Holly is a courageous, independent heroine. Max is a sexy, tortured hero and there is fantastic heat generated whenever they are within touching distance. The beautifully written sensual love scenes give important insight into the intensity of Holly and Max’s physical attraction and their deep emotional connection.

The believable, uncomplicated plot with enough twists and dark moments to hold the reader’s interest makes this a fabulous read. I liked the setting for this story and the echoes of the couple’s past that resurface through the small cast of secondary characters.

Holly and Max are ‘no strings’ lovers. Neither wants commitment, until a life changing event makes them focus on what they really desire from each other and their future. There are lots of humorous and poignant moments. Are they prepared to take the risks and make the sacrifices necessary to find their happy ever after?

‘Employee of the Month’ is a tale of light hearted romance and angst. The characters are easy to empathise with. This is an absorbing page turning read.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

The Baby Contract – Excerpt

Abby closed her eyes tight and pressed send on her phone. Liam’s phone rang once, twice, three times. A bit relieved, she waited to be routed to his voicemail.
“Liam Whitmore’s office.”
She sucked in a hard breath and nearly dropped the phone. “Uh…hi…this is Abby Haden, Abigail Haden that is.”
“Yes, Miss Haden,” the receptionist said quickly. “Please hold.”
Several seconds passed.
“This is Liam.”
“I…” Abby paused, searching her heart one last time. Her grip on her cellphone tightened, and her courage failed. “I…I…”
“What’s the holdup?” Liam asked, his voice gruff.
She flinched. “H-holdup?” she stammered.
“Seven hundred fifty thousand dollars, and that’s the final offer, Miss Haden. Take it or leave it.”
Abby blinked. “That’s not—”
“Take it or leave it,” Liam interrupted. “I want an answer now.”
His brisk tone set her on edge and raised her ire.
Her courage returned. “Fine, but I have a requirement.”
His pause felt tangible through the phone, and she feared he’d had second thoughts. Not that she’d back down from her decision.
“What is it?” He nearly growled the question.
She filled her lungs with air. “I want two hundred fifty thousand upon conception, the rest after the baby is born.”
Another pause. “We have a deal.” His anger had disappeared, his voice holding no hint of emotion.
Abby blew out her pent-up breath. “Okay, good. I’ve been unable to find a clinic for the…the artificial, um, you know.” She placed a cool palm on her flaming hot cheek. If it was possible to die from embarrassment, she’d be a goner for sure.
“I’m not following you, Miss Haden,” Liam said. She heard papers shuffling in the background. “I’ll have the contract drawn up.”
“Artificial insemination,” Abby blurted out.
“Artificial insemination?” He sounded taken aback. “I hadn’t considered any such thing.”
Abby frowned in confusion. “How else are we going to get me pregnant?”
Liam’s laughter echoed through the phone. Rich and throaty, it sent a hot tingle down Abby’s spine. Goose bumps broke out over her skin.
“Miss Haden, there are such pleasurable ways of making a baby that are quite successful,” he said, his voice dropping to a deep rumble over the phone. Abby took a shuddering breath as it did obscene things to her insides. His tone returned to its more business-like manner. “I have a cabin in Aspen. As soon as your cycle is at the most likely time for you to conceive we’ll fly up there for a week,” he said. “AI would take too much time,” he added.
“I-I didn’t plan on that,” Abby stuttered, her mind reeling. Sex hadn’t been in the equation when she’d made her decision. Sex? With Liam? Oh my God. Her heart kicked into overdrive. “Look, Mr. Whitmore—”
“I’ll set up an appointment with my physician for STD tests. Can you be there tomorrow afternoon by, say…” He paused briefly. “Three-thirty?”
“Mr. Whitmore, I—”
“Do you know when you’ll most likely ovulate again?”
Abby blinked, she was being steamrolled.
“Miss Haden, it’s a simple question. I need to know.”
She looked at her calendar, she’d already figured up the days in case she’d gotten an appointment at one of the clinics she called. “Um, next week, but listen—”
Liam pushed on. “I’ll have everything set up. We can leave for Aspen late Sunday evening. My personal assistant will be in touch tomorrow morning to give you directions to my physician’s office.”
“Mr. Whitmore, there’s no way I can get off work for a week on such short notice. It’s Tuesday,” she insisted, trying to back pedal.
“It’s taken care of. Don’t worry, Abigail,” he said.
The sound of her given name rolling off his tongue caught her off guard. It stopped her next objection dead in its tracks.
“What’s your contact number?” he asked.
Abby gave him her cellphone number.
After a quick ‘thank you’ Liam hung up, leaving Abby in a bit of a stupor. His driven personality explained his business success, as well as the rumored success he had with women. He was a raging river and she had been helplessly swept along in its current.

5* Review: Grading On Curves Tara Mills

17834001

One-on-one instruction never felt so right—or so wrong.

There’s nothing unusual about Mia Page’s attraction to the young science teacher at the middle school. After all, she’s not the only one who finds him enticing. But when he pulls her son aside to ask for her phone number, she knows she’s in serious trouble. Since her divorce four years earlier, she’s been out of circulation, choosing to focus on parenting instead, and she’s not entirely sure she can handle an entanglement with the sexy Mr. Walden.

There are also other reasons why getting involved with Curt would be a bad idea. He’s two years shy of thirty, and she’s on the downside of that unmentionable number. He’s adamant about never having kids, and she has a son. Even the guy’s romantic gifts are suspect. Energy saving light bulbs? He has to be kidding.

On the other hand, he’s fun, sweet, and smart. He stimulates her intellectually, emotionally, and Lord help her, physically, opening her eyes to life outside her comfortable world. Yet their differences quietly gnaw at Mia even while she succumbs to their undeniable chemistry.

As their romance deepens, so do Mia’s fears that Curt will eventually hurt her. On edge, all it takes is an innocent comment to provoke her into drawing first blood. Mia recklessly wounds Curt, learning only too late that this blade cuts both ways. Frantic to make amends, she fears it might be too late to admit the feelings she’s tried so hard to suppress.

Grading on CurvesMy Review

Attractive divorcee Mia can’t shake the sparks she experiences when she makes eye contact with an attractive younger man. Curt can’t forget the woman in the coffee shop. After a second serendipitous meeting at the clinic where he takes a pupil for emergency treatment he decides he wants to know her better.
Curt is definitely the teacher in their fledgling relationship as he encourages Mia to experience life as a woman rather than a mother. Mia is a willing pupil and finds the chemistry between her and the science teacher hard to ignore. The sensual tension in this book is so well done.
Mia is lovely, easy to empathise with as you experience her fears and desires. Curt is sexy, gentle and wise beyond his years. This is a fairytale romance but will there be a happy ending? Only if Mia overcomes her own prejudice and risks her pride for the love of a lifetime?
The perfect romantic escape between school runs.

What a difference a year makes -Tracey Rogers

TraceyRogerspicToday I welcome my friend and fellow author Tracey Rogers  back to First Steps. 2013  was  special for me and similarly so for Tracey  whose books Daring to Wish and Best Fake Day were released by Beachwalk Press in 2013. Over to you Tracey.Daring to Wish_Medium

A very happy New Year to you all! I can’t believe yet another year has passed us by and how different 2013 was for me!
I’m not terribly superstitious, but I do avoid walking under ladders. There are also numbers I avoid. Last New Year’s Eve I was really wasn’t looking forward to 2013. Three is my least favourite number and the idea of 13 in a year wasn’t particularly appealing. Not that I think it’s an unlucky number, but because saying the number out loud makes it sound so…dull. thirteen. Sounds sad doesn’t it? It made me dread the coming year. How wrong was I?
It was in January 2013 that I clicked send on my manuscript to Beachwalk Press. I hit send and had no nerves or expectations at all. After all, 2013 was destined to be a rubbish year. One month later I got the contract for my first book Daring to Wish. Then I went on to write Best Fake Day and later had that book accepted too.BestFakeDay_Medium
2013 was an amazing year for me. To be published was a dream of mine and if anyone would have told me in January that I would become an author in 2013, I would have laughed. To have begun the year as a writer with dreams and aspirations, then to finish the year with my second release Best Fake Day was a fantastic end to a very wonderful year.
Not only was it a wonderful year as an author, but as a writer. The writing community is so supportive. It’s also amazing that my author friends have had a fab year too with contracts and book releases to celebrate. Also those writer’s who are yet to find their books a home have reason to celebrate their determination and the fact that they have written a book, or two, or three…What an achievement!
I don’t have anything to celebrate in 2014 yet, but I’m working on it! I wonder what 2014 has planned for us? What are you hoping for?

I’m so pleased 2013 was an enjoyable one for you Tracey.

Here’s a taste of Tracey’s latest release Best Fake Day:

Blurb
Faking it never felt so good.
Wedding photographer and romance lover Izzy Latham dreams of finding her own happily ever after. When her former teenage crush arrives at her doorstep, looking sexier than ever, and asks to marry her, it should be her dream come true, right? Wrong. It turns out he doesn’t want to actually marry her—he only wants to pretend to marry her.
Marriage hater Jack Carter will do anything to close his latest business deal, including finding a wife. The only person who can help him is his childhood friend, Izzy. Except Izzy isn’t a little girl anymore. She’s definitely all woman, and there’s an attraction between them that’s hard to ignore.
Jack has to convince Izzy to fake it, but the problem is that she hates to lie. However, she can’t deny her feelings for him either. So when Jack makes her an offer she can’t refuse, she reluctantly agrees to help him out.
Faking it is the easy part. But what happens when fake starts to feel so real?

Excerpt
“Let me work off the money,” Izzy said.
She felt Jack’s gaze rake over her body, watched the clench of his jaw. “And how are you planning to work it off, Isabel?” he almost growled. “Is that what all of this is about?” he asked as his hand made an indicating sweep over her body. “Dress to impress so you can pay me in kind?”
“Oh God, no,” she spluttered. “This is me showing you I’m not the weak, naïve girl I used to be and I won’t be pushed around!”
The hard glint in his eyes softened slightly. “You were never weak. Naïve…” He trailed off. “So how exactly were you planning to pay me back?”
“Working here for you for free until I pay you back. I could collect glasses, work the bar, or clean.”
“And you have experience in any of those roles?”
“No. But I could learn.”
“But what about the house repairs?”
She shrugged. “I could do that during the daytime and work here at night. Then when I’m earning again from my day job I’ll pay you back.”
“And what exactly is your day job?”
“I’m a photographer. I could even do that here. Take photographs of the patrons and sell them for you.”
“You work freelance?”
“I have my own business.” She hesitated before elaborating. “As a wedding photographer,” she said quickly, hoping he wouldn’t snag the teasing opportunity.
Too late. The corner of his mouth quirked until it bloomed until a grin. “A wedding photographer. How appropriate. I knew playing dress-up with your mother’s veil and having teddy bears as your guests would have an influence on you one day.”
“You mean like wanting to have a traditional wedding where the groom doesn’t have to bribe the bride? Yeah, my childhood messed me up real bad,” she said with sarcasm.
“You’re not working here, Izzy. And this conversation is over.”
“No, it’s not. I’m giving you a solution to paying off what I owe. I’ll work off the amount Ellie paid for our debts and the rest you get from her. So when do I start?”
“You are not working here.”
“Why?”
“Do you really want to have some guy groping you as you serve drinks? Or a group of guys? I run a tight ship and look out for my staff, but sometimes it happens.”
“I can look after myself. I have been groped before, you know. I can deal with it.”
He slid his chair closer, bending his legs so hers surrounded him without touching, but close, very close. He looked up at her under dark lashes. “So if some guy puts a hand on your leg you wouldn’t mind?”
She shook her head.
“And if that hand strayed beneath your dress?” he asked as his hand reached out to graze the sensitive skin of her inner thigh, making her shudder.
She shook her head slowly, earning a dark look. Of course she would mind. But this was Jack.
He stood abruptly, stepping into the v of her thighs. “And if a guy tried to kiss you?”
“I have been kissed before, remember?” she said, inwardly cringing at how breathless she sounded.
“I remember being a boy kissing you as a girl. If I were to kiss you now I wouldn’t be holding back and I wouldn’t be kissing you as a boy—I’d be kissing you as a man.”
“Then do it,” she demanded.
Author bio
A devourer of books from an early age, I spent much of my childhood stepping into wardrobes, searching for that magical snowy world where conversing with animals would be expected. When I wasn’t searching for those worlds, I wrote about them instead. My first step into the world of romance was when I stole sneak peeks into my nana’s books. I’m still in that world and refuse to leave.
I live in Staffordshire, UK, with my husband and three wonderful children. An avid reader and writer of romance, I strongly believe that words make the world go around.
