My Thoughts…

A lovely collection of shorts, about romance in Antigua.

Despite the brevity of the stories, the authors manage to capture the holiday island ethos and the intensity of holiday romance. All have hopeful endings, that let you imagine what comes next. Lovely Summer reading.

The Love Islands Collection – 3* Review

Amazon UK

My Thoughts…

Perfect to get you in the holiday mood. Island romance from sweet to sensual with sexy heroes and strong heroines and colourful, vibrant settings.

Brought to carry his Heir – Jane Porter

Held captive…

When Georgia Nielson is asked to be the surrogate for an enigmatic tycoon, she can’t afford to say no. Before she realizes that she’s struck a deal with the devil, she’s trapped on his isolated Greek island, with no escape from the brooding master who stalks its shores!

Carrying his child!

Scarred by the loss of his wife, Nikos Panos’s future rests on leaving behind a legacy. But Georgia’s constant presence threatens to unleash the powerful hunger he’s kept caged for so long. If he wants defiant Georgia to submit, he must confront the demons that haunt him…

A surrogate and a billionaire alone on a Greek Island. Angst and heartache give way to passion and understanding in this fast-paced sensual romance. Both protagonists ride the emotional rollercoaster to find happiness.

The Doctor She Left Behind – Scarlet Wilson

After five years with Doctors Without Borders, Nathan Banks is close to burnout – and a job in the stunning Whitsundays is the perfect fresh start! Until Nathan discovers his new colleague is his ex – Rachel Johnson! But could this twist of fate finally make these docs confront their past and face their future… together?

Second chance romance.  Neither wants to be in the same place, but an unexpected matchmaker and circumstances make it necessary. Nathan and Rachel, learn to forgive and move on to a future together.

A Miracle for the Baby Doctor – Meredith Webber

Conceived in paradise.

When beautiful embryologist Fran Hawthorne is offered the opportunity to work on a Pacific island for a month, she seizes the chance to escape the humiliation of her ex-husband’s betrayal. But Fran isn’t prepared for Steve Ransome, the handsome doctor heading the clinic. After years of struggling to conceive with her ex, Fran is tempted to give in to the pure passion that burns between them. Only their “temporary” fling results in her carrying the child she thought she’d never have.

A lovely romance with a medical theme. Easy reading, plenty of angst, poignancy and romance. An entertaining read, even if you’re not a medical romance fan.

His Accidental Heir – Joanne Rock

The Boss’s Baby Bargain.

When resort developer Cameron McNeill goes undercover to root out problems at his prized island property, his first discovery is the irresistible concierge, Maresa Delphine. Her business smarts are vital to his mission. But the struggling single mom could help with his personal mission, too: fulfilling the marriage terms of his grandfather’s will. Maresa is overwhelmed caring for her infant niece and tending to the demands of the resort’s sexy mystery guest. When he reveals himself as the owner, she’s thrown for a loop. But when he proposes…can she resist his brand of trouble in paradise?

Luxury location, Sexy billionaire and a successful, family orientated heroine, who sees the good in everyone and puts her family above herself. A passionate romance but a strictly business marriage makes this a lovely read with lots of conflict and angst for  Maresa, a timely wake-up call for Cameron and thankfully a happy ever after for the reader.

Claiming His Wedding Night – Louise Fuller

“You owe me a honeymoon.”

Addie Farrell’s marriage to casino magnate Malachi King lasted exactly one day until she discovered their love was a sham. Now, with funding for her children’s charity about to be cut, Addie must face her husband and their dangerously seductive chemistry once again
Humiliated and frustrated after Addie’s sudden departure, Malachi seizes the chance to put the power back where it belongs: in his hands. The deal: Malachi will give her the money she desperately needs if she returns to his side and finally he will claim his long-awaited wedding night

While this is certainly a passionate story, it lacks romance, Addie and Malachi’s sexual attraction brought them together and even after five years it remains, simmering under the surface. His ‘Indecent Proposal’ offer to continue the funding for her charity if she gives him his honeymoon, is outdated. The couple’s true feelings eventually surface, and the ending is happy, but both characters are hard to empathise.

 My Thoughts…

Romantic royal weddings are on trend at the moment, and these three romances capture the essences of the 21st-century royal romance. With a nod to Cinderella, the heroines aren’t princesses but, independent, professional, successful women, who seek passion rather than love because they don’t want to risk their hearts. The three princes are duty bound to marry well, all have well-publicised love lives but meeting their unlikely Cinderella’ makes them want to marry for love rather than obligation.  The fast-paced stories have passion with humour and poignancy. Each story highlights, the drawbacks and commitment of royal life with strong conflict both external and internal but they all have fairytale endings.

Crowned for the Prince’s Heir

This is fashion designer Lisa and Prince Luciano’s story. Before honouring an arranged betrothal, Luciano seeks out the only woman to reject him after a brief affair. Lisa’s emotional scars make her protect her heart at all costs. The second time around doesn’t end well for the couple, but it does leave a legacy that has consequences and leads to conflict and confusion before any chance of a happy ending.

The Ice Prince –

A wrangle over land and a case of mistaken identity throw lawyer Anna and Prince Draco together. The heat created is undeniable but family loyalty is at stake, and there is little trust between the two. I like this story least of the three, but it is full of passion and has a satisfactory ending.

At His Majesty’s Request –

A 21st-century matchmaker and a prince seem an unlikely combination but neither is conventional, and both hide their true feelings from the world.  Jessica and Stavros’passion sizzle before they acknowledge it.  Stavros has put his country before his well-being, and Jessica’s disastrous first marriage has left her scarred.  This is the most romantic of the stories, and Stavros is my favourite prince. If you like passionate romance with a distinctly royal flavour, this trio of royal romances will be a worthwhile read.

Paranormal My Review

Spirits of the Season: Eight Haunting Holiday Romances

This is an easy to read festive collection of short stories and novellas, with a ghostly or paranormal twist. There is something to appeal to everyone in this book, whether you are fan of the festive season or not. Perfect for the commute to work or a snatched hour by the fire, these stories will let you escape to another era, time zone or even world.

Upon a Ghostly Yule – Amanda De Wees
A Victorian Christmas romance, this story has all the right ingredients for historical romance lovers. A courageous heroine snubbed by society through no fault of her own, a gallant hero, and a jealous so called friend. The paranormal twist is in the form of ghost, whose own unhappiness affects Felicity the heroine, in an alarming way.

Saving Laurel – Raine English
This contemporary Christmas story has Laurel returning to house where she grew up, with the intention of selling the estate and moving on. Already apprehensive about returning to her home she has to face echoes of the past, before she can move on with her life. Enhanced with vivid imagery and tender romance, this story is perfect for all the Christmas romantics like me.

In the Holiday Spirit – Angeline Fortin
This story perfectly captures the hopeful spirit of the Christmas season. Fearful of being hurt again Alice avoids commitment and resists all attempts by her matchmaking Grandma to start living life to the full again. She falls at the feet of a man to die for but is it just her clumsiness, or something more? Great characters and visual imagery make this one of my favourites in this anthology.

Kaiden: Snow Bride – Anthena Grayson
An unusual, romantic fantasy tale for the festive season set in Japan in the 1969- 1970.

Sapphire Ridge – Aileen Harkwood
Laying old ghosts to rest proves far more adventurous than Nikki would have imagined. Vivid disaster scenes and enlightening flashbacks in this fast paced story hold your interest. The paranormal element in this story is subtle and adds an exciting twist to an already emotional story.

Mistletoe and Magic- Lynda Haviland.
Like all ‘Hidden Coast romances’ this story interweaves supernatural elements into a contemporary world setting in a believable way. A surprise guest at Hannah’s empty inn, changes her plans in a charming and unexpected way. Full of romance and ghostly happenings this is a delightful read.

Her Ghost of Christmas Past – Afton Moss
This is a lovely romantic tale of ghosts, lost love and soul mates. Is love eternal, who knows but this story certainly makes you think about the possibility?

Bandits Hollow – Diane J Reed.
A western romantic tale where, the past haunts the present and echoes of magic and the supernatural enliven an everyday setting.

Enrich your festive season with magic and ghosts I recommend reading this anthology in the shadow of the Christmas tree lights.

Like the beautiful lace dress featured; this story is an intricate weave of contemporary, historical and paranormal. Four hundred years, separates the characters but they share more than similar names. Both stories are interesting with vivid imagery drawn together by a shared magical theme. The romance is sweet and the plot captivating, making this a fairytale read.

Here are Aileen’s thoughts on the perfect setting for a romantic wedding:

5 Magical Wedding Destinations Fit for a Romance Novel

by Aileen Harkwood

Many a bride fantasizes about holding a destination wedding, typically involving a tropical beach, a lush vineyard in the south of France, or the ever popular Las Vegas. Destination weddings pose challenges, however, in terms of costs and the difficulties of getting everyone in the right place at the right time. Provence might beckon, but in the end, many couples eventually opt for the more practical local wedding spot, forced to leave daydreams behind.

Not so in RL. In RL, anything is possible. Whether you envision a snowy hot tub ceremony at the most exclusive resort in Aspen, getting married with 300 of your closest friends in the grand ballroom at the Waldorf-Astoria, or zip-lining to the altar through the jungles of Costa Rica, in RL it’s all doable.

I refer not to Real Life, of course, but to Romance Life, the world inhabited by the heroes and heroines of your favorite romance novels. I love writing romance precisely because I’m allowed to dream up the impossible, the impractical, the magical. With that in mind, here are five insanely over-the-top locations in terms of sheer romance. I would absolutely choose any of these enchanted wedding destinations for my characters.

Château de Marqueyssac This 17th century estate perched atop a cliff overlooking France’s Dordogne Valley is romance personified. Almost too whimsical to be believed, its sculpted gardens, originally planted in the 1860s by Julien de Cervel, outdo any fairytale setting the producers at Once Upon a Time could dream up.

Bonus Almost Love Scene Points: A giddy chase through winding topiaries leads to passionate kisses hidden among the boxwoods.

2.IsleofSkyIsle of Sky, ScotlandJust the name alone is enough to bewitch the romantics among us. From its rugged, windswept coasts to its “fairy pools” and quaint country manors where intimate weddings might find a home, this would be a nuptials to remember.

Bonus Hero Points: Your groom, and every other male in the wedding party, in a kilt.

Image Credit: “© SoulAD | Fotolia.”

Wisteria Flower Passage, Kawachi Fuji Garden, JapanApproximately 150 wisteria vines in a variety of colors create a tunnel of love like no other in the world. If your romance heroine could actually secure this venue (seriously doubtful), a May wedding would be best, when the tunnel is in full bloom.

Bonus Savings for Frugal Heroine – Flowers? We’ve got you covered.

The Champagne Suite, The New York Palace Hotel At $25,000 per night, and featuring a 2-story view of Midtown Manhattan, this sinfully extravagant locale is appointed with polished marble-vaulted-crystal-glistening everything and comes with its very own “champagne cave.” Though the booking page lists the suite as suitable for 6 guests, an entire wedding party would easily fit in its 5,000 square-foot sumptuousness.

Bonus sex scene inspiration – Hero and heroine could spend three sensual chapters exploring the gargantuan bathroom and still not find their way out.

Frégate Island, Seychelles Who wouldn’t want to have their own “palatial teak villa” on their own private island to serve as backdrop for the ultimate destination wedding? Okay, so there are actually 17 palatials on the beach, but each has their own private pool, dining pavilion and butler. Considering the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were rumored to have spent their honeymoon here, magic comes standard.

Bonus reverse-Roman Holiday plot twist – Could your hero, the butler, be a royal in disguise?

While it may not be the Seychelles or the Palace Hotel, you’ll find a bespelled destination in The Last Wedding at Drayhome, my contribution to Magical Weddings: 15 Enchanting Romances. The venue for the wedding in this novella is Drayhome, a great estate in Breens Mist, Oregon with a mind of its own, cared for by the witch and warlock who struggle to save it from ruin.

Poppy - Author Bioharkwood200x300Aileen Harkwood is a Readers’ Crown finalist who lives in the Southern Rockies. The Last Wedding at Drayhome is the prequel to two concurrent series of fantasy romances, Spell Touched: Breens Mist Witches, Book 1, and Wedding Spell, first in the Breens Mist Weddings series, due out in September 2015. She’s passionate about green chile and the mysteries hiding in antique photographs.

Flowers - My ReviewA witch, a warlock and a house with attitude makes ‘the Last Wedding at Drayhome’, full of magic, deception and paranormal events. Ax’s and Colleen’s interactions are always filled with passion, whether it is anger or desire and they bring this fantasy to life. The other witches in the story are colourful and The Priest is certainly not the benevolent warlock his name suggests. The house is a notable character in the story. This novella is perfect for those of us who love battles of good versus evil and the power of the elements. The Wedding is full of mystery and surprises and has a lovely romantic ending.

I am intrigued to read other stories in the forthcoming series’.
