Sunday Snippet: The Revenge Masquerade – Jane Hunt

PicMonkey CollageHere’s a snippet from my upcoming release The Revenge Masquerade which is due for release in December 2014. The second book in The Dragon Legacy series, this is Jasmine and Zane’s story set in romantic Venice and the Italian Lakes.

Sunday Snippet

The shrieking noise quieted and the unmistakable creek of the heavy door alerted him of someone’s approach. His hackles rose and then flattened in recognition of the scent; a mixture of flowers and spice unique to Jasmine. He resisted the urge to shift into his human form. As a wolf their encounter would remain platonic. His mind and heart warred over the morality of his desires. He couldn’t stay. His mission necessitated he leave immediately. Was it fair to take Jasmine’s heart and leave her alone with needs mere memories wouldn’t satisfy? The wolf ignored his human conscience. Time was short and the instinctive need to brand the flame-haired witch with his mark too strong. He shifted back into his human form.
Zane leant against the jagged stone wall. His naked body barely registered the rough-hewn rock which imprinted his skin. His abrupt shift into human form didn’t include clothes. The cool night air soothed his fevered body as Jasmine appeared. A faint blush stained her pale skin everywhere his gaze rested.’

The Revenge Masquerade -Sunday Snippet – The Dragon Legacy #2-

In celebration of finishing my second book in ‘The Dragon Legacy’ series I’m posting a snippet today.

‘The Revenge Masquerade’ set in Italy features Jasmine the witch and Zane the wolf shifter.

 Revenge 2

Sunday Snippet – The Revenge Masquerade

Odd behaviour for a dog even a supernatural one was her last rational thought as the violent pain blurred the line between reality and fantasy and pushed her over the edge into nothingness…

Where was she? The expensively furnished room looked vaguely familiar but Jasmine didn’t know why. The thump and echo of beating drums filled her senses and made her head hurt. She couldn’t concentrate but there was no clue to the source of her discomfort. A sudden movement in her peripheral vision drew her gaze, the noise and pain faded as the scene unfolded and absorbed her.

A woman she recognised leaned against a large table and stared at the stranger opposite; a tall dark haired woman lithe and expensively dressed in a white silk creation. The stranger took a step forward an obvious invasion of the first woman’s personal space. Jasmine noted the aggressive gesture and raised voices. White silk woman spoke in a heavily accented voice her speech difficult to decipher. The other voice lighter was Larna’s, the room’s familiarity fell into place.

“I can’t help you I don’t know where the dragon lord is.”Larna rigid body belied her slightly bored tone.

The stranger backed away and vanished. Jasmine blinked and scanned the immediate area for any trace of the woman. Nothing, in her place swayed a snake like creature. Her assumption that white silk woman transformed into the serpent the only logical explanation. Jasmine’s sharp nails pinched her bare arm ‘ouch’ the nail marks visible against her pale skin but the snake remained this nightmare was real.

The creature spat venom at Larna poised to strike at the diminutive woman. She drew a sword and struck out at the monster. Unaffected it coiled round Larna’s upper body and pinned her up against the wall. Venom like droplets dripped from its open mouth onto her face and mouth as she struggled against the snake’s hold. The death like grip relaxed. Larna jerked like a marionette .The snake disappeared.

The dark haired woman raised her hand. Larna’s jerky steps propelled her towards the centre of the vast room. The woman lowered her hand. Larna hit the floor hard like a discarded puppet devoid of human reactions. Satisfied the woman slashed the air with random hand movements and the furniture and ornaments collided and smashed before crashing to the ground damaged like Larna… The images receded and only darkness remained…

The pain melted away too tired to think Jasmine drifted into unconsciousness.’

Jasmine and Zane’s Story – Update and Excerpt

I’ve been writing Jasmine and Zane’s story for a few weeks now and whilst I still have some way to go I wanted to share an extract from the first chapter.

Love to know what you think.

Excerpt
”Run Zane. Warn Lukas. I got this.”

He couldn’t risk replying. Shifting back to his wolf would make him faster but the city streets were full of chattering voices as people hurried to work. He must keep his wolf identity secret from the human world. He backed out of the room with reluctant steps not wanting to leave Lukas’s sister in danger but her message repeated itself in his head, a litany he couldn’t ignore. He must find Lukas. As he crossed the landing and ran down the stairs he considered the best method of communication with the dragon lord; unsure of Lukas’ current whereabouts since he last saw him in the Italian Dolomites.

Outside the sun had climbed higher in the sky, the previous deserted streets now teemed with humanity, fortunately all preoccupied with their own thoughts. It was still a little early for the tourists who sauntered at a more leisurely pace. He walked towards the canal. Using the water as a communication medium would be the quickest way to reach Lukas’ dragon. He walked briskly, his long legs eating up the short distance between the palazzo and the water. As he turned into the square he sensed someone close by. He scanned the crowd, no one seemed interested in him but a supernatural wouldn’t be overt. He looked over his shoulder the titan hair betrayed her, Jasmine.

Zane attributed the multitude of butterflies in his abdomen and his quickening heartbeat to Adrenaline produced by his need for flight rather than sexual excitement at seeing his witchy lover. No time to find out why she was here the demon could be in pursuit. To acknowledge Jasmine’s presence would put her on the demon’s radar. First contact Lukas. No distractions. His hair fell over his eyes as he shook his head to clear Jasmine’s image and the memories it evoked from his mind. She couldn’t be real just another illusion from his fevered imagination. Jasmine dominated his torrid dreams as he relived their passion on a nightly basis. Despite his resolve the timing of her appearance disturbed him. Perhaps the demon picked her out of his subconscious and taunted him? The other explanation bothered him more. If Jasmine sensed the danger he faced she would reach out to him telepathically. Given Jasmine’s clairvoyance and empathy it would explain her appearance. He cleared his mind. Whilst her presence was poignant and worthy of investigation time was short it would have to wait.

The shimmering water dazzled him. This would only work if he became the wolf; the risk of drowning much greater in human form. He searched for a quieter spot away from the waiting gondolas and their ever-present gondoliers. Flies buzzed around the bags of rubbish awaiting collection behind one of the numerous alfresco cafes. There between the bins was the only place. He dived behind them gagging at the odour of rancid food and the scattering of rodents who sensed a predator in their midst. He tore off his clothes mindful of his need to redress later when he regained his human form. He embraced the pain of muscles stretching beyond their human endurance, bones cracked and reformed as he shifted into his true form. The silver wolf sniffed the air, no human scent in the immediate vicinity. He crept from his smelly hiding place and ran towards the water. A sharp gasp curtailed his dive into the water. His gaze locked with Jasmine’s watery, emerald stare. Her hand reached out to him he hesitated but before he acknowledged her his hackles rose as he sensed danger close by, somewhere behind Jasmine. He must go. If he lingered he risked himself and Jasmine who would be collateral damage in the demon’s pursuit. He dived into the dark, still waters of the canal with Jasmine’s screams ringing in his ears.’

Valentine’s Day In the Italian Lakes – The Dragon Legacy #2 A Date With Jasmine and Zane –

So its Valentine’s Day and I am spending it writing more of my next book in The Dragon Legacy Jasmine and Zane’s adventure now loosely titled ‘The Revenge Masquerade’. For regular readers of this blog you will know my new story is set in Italy predominately the Italian lakes which I have visited and Venice which I haven’t.

To give myself a break I thought about what Jasmine and Zane could do on a romantic Valentine’s Date in Lake Garda my favourite of the lakes. There is so much going on. Here are a few things they might try 🙂

Kitesurfing on Lake Garda looks fun as this Kitesurfing school video shows:

Then perhaps a little sightseeing around one of the beautiful towns around Lake Garda. Which one would you choose?

Finally a romantic meal in Garda at the edge of the lake at one of the many lakeside restaurants and watch the sunset over the lake perfetto.

Happy Valentine’s Day 🙂

Writing Journey: Title for The Dragon Legacy #2 – Your Suggestions

I haven’t written a Writing Journey post for a while because  I’ve been planning and writing book two of The Dragon Legacy. This story is set in the Italian Lakes and Venice and features Jasmine  the feisty witch and Zane the wolf shifter from The Dragon Legacy.

The Dragon Legacy CoverI am running a poll to help me find the title for Jasmine and Zane’s adventure. The person who  suggests the title I like best will win an e-copy of The Dragon Legacy and a crackle handmade necklace as featured on my Pinterest board The Dragon Legacy Fleurcrystal necklace

I have included a couple of my own suggestions  but I am looking forward to  yours.

Poll runs until 28 February 2014.

Here’s an outline of the first chapter to help you decide:
Zane hasn’t seen Jasmine since their passionate encounter in Hallow House’s moonlit garden. After his abrupt departure Zane travels around the supernatural world spreading the news about the infant dragon. In Venice he meets Larna a dragon and sister of his friend Lukas the dragon lord.  After a night meeting with paranormal creatures Zane returns to Larna’s palazzo and discovers  she is locked in combat with an evil entity which looks alarmingly familiar.

Jasmine ‘s life has lost its sparkle  since Zane loved and left her. Moping is not in her nature so she continues to be the life force of Hallow House’s Murder Mystery weekends and clandestine paranormal activities. At night her sleep is filled with images of  Zane and their brief passionate encounter.  One night the dream changes Zane is in danger and Jasmine must find him.’©Jane Hunt 2014

I am blogging on the Crimson Frost Books Blog tomorrow 3 February  about how I chose the setting for Jasmine and Zane’s adventure ‘The Italian Lakes the Perfect Setting for Sexy Fantasy’
