Why is Self-Promotion Hard?

The Dangerous Gift preorder

As many of you know my third book is released next week. The Dangerous Gift is a romantic suspense, a new genre for me but one I enjoy reading, so I thought I would write one and see what happened.  It is also with a new publisher – Limitless Publishing so these are exciting times.Book Reviewer 1

Since the release of the second book in ‘The Dragon Legacy series’ in December 2014 I have concentrated on promoting other authors, through spotlight posts, book reviews and social media posts. I love doing this. So  I should be well placed to promoting my own book.

Book Reviewer

In many ways I am. I have a good social media following but getting the balance right  is difficult. It’s easy to recommend the  work of others, not so much your own. Writers are by nature I think self-critical and introverted so ‘blowing your own trumpet’ is well out of their comfort zone. The Dangerous Gift - Blog Tour

That said overcoming your barriers to self-promotion is essential if your book is to get noticed. The biggest hurdle for authors is to get your book seen, by the people who would love to buy and read it. So with this in mind I have been promoting The Dangerous Gift across all my social media platforms and I have been touched by the support from my social media and blog followers. Thank you.

I have supported a number of ‘Thunderclap’ campaigns in the last couple of weeks and thought I would give it a go for The Dangerous Gift. It’s a chance to reach new supporters and readers but only if you get the required number of sign ups.

The minimum is 100 people and since The Dangerous Gift campaign went live yesterday evening I have 9. 🙂 So there is some way to go, before I reach my target. If 100 supporters sign up; one Tweet, Facebook Post and Tumblr post will made on 9 Feb 12.00 pm to support The Dangerous Gift

If you have a minute please sign up 🙂 The Dangerous Gift Thunderclap

‘He pushed the horrific images from his mind and sought a diversion. The answer to his prayer walked down the stairs in a black lace dress, demure, with its buttoned up lacy collar and long sleeves. Jen’s hair restrained again, his fingers itched to free it, barely any makeup, pale skin added to her air of fragility. Jared captured and held Jen’s troubled gaze. Driven by a protective instinct he ran up the stairs. Enclosed in his warm grip, the coldness of her delicate hand alarmed him. He stroked the soft skin and encouraged the blood flow, the scent of roses drifted off Jen’s body. His arousal went into overdrive. She smelled so good. “Are you okay kitten?” ‘

Here’s a snippet from ‘The Dangerous Gift’ my romantic suspense story.

Jared bent down and scooped Jennie into his muscular arms. Her mind protested. Her needy body snuggled into his safe, protective embrace. Exhaustion won over principles. It seemed churlish to refuse his comfort. He carried her as if she weighed nothing and placed her amid the couch’s cushions. The forgotten invitation card fell from his pocket into Jennie’s lap. The words stared back at her. She shivered. Someone hated her.

Jennie fought sleep. Jared moved round the modern kitchen with quiet expertise.”I didn’t realise you could cook.” The golden omelette slipped easily from the pan onto the waiting plate. Jared looked across at her.

“Never said I couldn’t but if someone does it for me I don’t object.”

She hobbled over to the work counter. A lick of fire rushed to her core when his fingers’ grazed hers as she took the plate. She risked a glance at Jared anxious to see if the chemistry affected him too. He averted his gaze. Flustered she heaped too much salad onto her plate and headed for the scrubbed pine table in the middle of the room. The fluffy and light omelette melted in her mouth. Her stomach growled in appreciation. Jared added salad to his own plate before he joined her.”This is good Jared. I’m so hungry.”

Here’s a snippet from the first chapter.  🙂

“Hello.” Jennie pressed the accept button on her phone without checking the caller ID.

“Jen?”

The  familiar voice caused butterflies in her stomach.“Yes. Jared? What’s wrong?”She dropped gratefully into a comfy sofa, one of several which lined the faculty building walls.

Jared Stewart perched his body on the edge of his desk. He’d put this conversation off for hours. “It’s Annie and Ralf…”

Jennie’s face chilled as shock forced the blood from peripheral vessels to her vital organs.“Are they okay?” She gripped the cushioned arm of the sofa as her sight blurred.’
