Release Blitz – Brittney Coon- Breaking Down Sydney – A Sydney West Novel #2

BDS cover

Winter Blurb

Sydney West’s new relationship might have survived Malibu, but her transformation from party girl to girlfriend isn’t complete…

Sydney is back in Arizona, and with the fall semester at her doorstep, doubts about her so-called summer love start to plague her. A good girl can only stay good for so long. Jason King changed her and made her wonder if love was real. But now, far from his charm, and with the party scene on campus in full swing, the magic is fading…

Jason isn’t willing to let distance drive a wedge between them…

A surprise reunion and a romantic cabin getaway is enough to reignite their summertime spark, but Sydney isn’t convinced this whole monogamous, meeting-your-parents thing Jason wants is possible. No boy has ever met her mother. Then, when a sudden family tragedy strikes, it sends her spiraling into her old habits of booze and boys.

Sydney can only hide from her past for so long…

In the fog of drowning her sorrows, Sydney realizes her former party lifestyle won’t make her happy. Her one-night stands ended with Jason. As much as she wants to believe in that far-fetched fairytale ending, she’s afraid if Jason finds out about all her summer boys, he will abandon her just like her father did.

Jason refuses to settle for the superficial shell Sydney keeps between them, though, and is determined to…

Break Down Sydney once and for all.

Twenty-four-year-old musician Charlie Stone has always played the classics. It’s just another day of playing the same old songs until he notices her—Anna Garrett, a beauty with cold-bitten, rosy cheeks and a coffee cup clutched in her hands.

In the heart of London, chance encounters are few and far between, but a warm melody can bring people together…

Winter My Review
This is an unusual love story set in London. Charlie is a musician who despite his privileged background craves a simpler life, filled with music, which he funds working in a music shop and busking outside a London Underground station. Country girl Anna works in London, living the dream; except she doesn’t like her job or her bitchy colleagues and is fed up of being constantly set up by her flatmate with materialistic arrogant men.
Charlie’s attraction to Anna is instant and powerful and he tries to charm her with his music. Anna doesn’t notice him at first until he plays a song that captures her heart and evokes loving memories of her childhood. Charlie and Anna are opposite in background, family and aspirations but they form an unlikely bond. Seen through Anna and Charlie’s eyes we experience their emotional highs and lows as they try to discover their happy ever after.
For me Anna and Charlie are difficult to warm to. However they are realistic characters and reflect twenty-first century relationships. The setting is vibrant and contrasts with the introspective nature of the story, which is full of angst.
If you like your romance totally focused on the hero and heroine and a little quirky, this story should appeal to you.
I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

Author Bio 2016- 2

J.E.Warren currently resides in a somewhat sleepy seaside town, and is a British Romance/YA writer who has a long standing love for milky tea, travel, shaggy haired 90’s band Hanson, and small dogs.

She enjoys writing and bringing to life realistic and relatable characters, especially strong, sharp and savvy females who aren’t afraid to speak their mind.

Music has always played a big part in her life – from noisy rock to reggae, folk to pop punk and everything else in between. And is a constant source of inspiration when writing, especially when plotting new ways to steal reader’s hearts, or make them swoon (usually with the help of guitar playing heartthrobs.)

When she’s not writing, J.E likes to curate perfect playlists – of which she has many, and catch up on her favourite shows (again too many), though you can be certain to find Buffy The Vampire Slayer on heavy rotation.

Release Day Spotlight – Dating in the Dark – Tracey Rogers- (#1 Sweet Delights Series)

Today is official release day, for book 1 in the Sweet Delights series- Dating in the Dark.

Look out for my review, on my blog later today.:-)

Here’s the lovely Tracey Rogers to share the inspiration behind her fabulous new book.
DatingInTheDark_Medium
Hello Jane and thank you for hosting me today.
When I’m writing it often involves the consumption of calories, as words and food are the perfect combination. Or is that just me? So when I decided to tackle a new project it seemed only right that I should bring words and food together and decorate them with a sprinkle of romance.
Welcome to the Sweet Delights Bakery, where the kitchen gets hot and there’s tastiness aplenty! First to sample the delights of the bakery are Sophie and Damian. Secrets are laced with sugar in Dating in the Dark, book 1 of the Sweet Delights Series.
If you want a peek of what to expect, check my Dating in the Dark board on pinterest here:

Blurb -2

Can you find what you need hidden within the dark?
Hiding out in his sister’s bakery to recover from a recent injury isn’t an ideal solution for newly unemployed meteorologist Damian Trent. Especially since he doesn’t like cake. But hiding anywhere is preferable to facing the media frenzy revolving around his life. He has no intention of being seen by anyone. That is, until he hears a honey-toned voice over the phone.
Public relations agent Sophie Rose has a boss who makes her working week a hellish one. He drives her to her need for sugar, so the recently opened Sweet Delights Bakery is perfect for her much needed Friday treat. But one day when she calls to place an order, she gets an unexpected surprise.
Sophie’s keen to dump her V-plates, though only the right man will do. Damian, with his sexy, yet familiar sounding voice, seems the ideal person for her to gain some much needed experience with. But why do they need to date in the dark?

Excerpt - 1

Damian rested his arm across his forehead and sighed, trying to blot out the ringing sound and failing. Sleep wasn’t happening. He ached from his walk after pushing it to a run. With each step he’d remembered Sophie’s voice. He had very little else to occupy his mind, so she was an easy focus. Every stride had gathered pace, and before he knew it a walk had become a jog; a jog becoming a run.
And her voice was still inside his head.
Stretching out on the creaky sofa bed, he winced at the movement. Irritated, he tugged the sheet down from his bare chest to lean over and grab the phone. He placed it to his ear and muttered something unintelligible.
“Hi, sorry—did I wake you?”
“Sophie?” Or was he asleep and dreaming?
“Oh, crap. I did, didn’t I? I’m so sorry. I couldn’t sleep, so I thought… Anyway, my apologies. Pretend it never happened, and goodnight,” she said, speeding over her words.
“Sophie, wait!” he called out, wanting to stop her before she hung up, needing to listen to her voice for a little while longer. “I couldn’t sleep either,” he reassured her as he heard her soft breaths. He shuffled higher against his pillow and propped one hand behind his head. Why couldn’t she sleep? Because of him? And how had she gotten his number?
“Really?” Her relieved sigh made him smile. If he wasn’t careful, smiling could become a habit of his. “When you left your number in the box, I thought…”
Left his number? He had no idea what his number was.
“What did you think?”
“I thought you might want me to call?” she asked hesitantly, as if she was worried about his response. She wouldn’t be worried if she could see the stirring going on beneath the sheet. Or maybe she would be? Though she seemed confident, he still detected a shyness behind her words.
“And did you want to call?”
“I did.”
His jaw clenched at her immediate response, a muscle flickering in his cheek. Interesting. Her honesty was evoking things inside that he was starting to like. A lot.
“I like hearing your voice.”
Christ, what was she doing to him?
“What do you look like?” he asked, without thinking about the repercussions of his question.
Silence.
“Does that matter?” she said quietly, the warmth in her tone dropping a degree or two.
“No, no it doesn’t.” He frowned, the admission taking him by surprise. “Tell me what you’re wearing instead.”
“Why?”
“Because if you don’t tell me you’re wearing something hideous, I won’t be sleeping for the rest of the night either.”
She laughed then, the sound not helping his libido whatsoever. “Damian.”
“Yeah.”
“I’m not wearing anything hideous.” He groaned then, obviously out loud because Sophie was laughing again. “I’m not wearing anything.”
Oh, hell. A sudden spike of desire sliced through his veins, making him regret his impulsive words. “Then I’m now very grateful I don’t know what you look like.”
“You could. Know what I look like I mean.”
“You want to tell me now?”
“No. I want to show you. On a…date?”
Damian lifted a hand to his face, massaging his fingers above his brow, then lower to scrub over his jaw. His breath felt restricted by his tightening lungs. As much as he wanted to see her, to touch her, to have someone touch him in a way that wasn’t clinical or trying to fix him—he couldn’t do it. How could he see her, without her seeing him?
Author Bio -1Author picUsually found with a pen in my hand, or my head in a book, I’m a contemporary romance author who also thinks fangs and wings are a very attractive accessory.
A devourer of books from an early age, imagination was my best discovery. I spent much of my childhood stepping into wardrobes, searching for that magical snowy world where conversing with animals would be expected. When I wasn’t searching for those worlds, I wrote about them instead. My first step into the world of romance was when I stole sneak peeks into my nana’s books. I’m still in that world and I refuse to leave.
I live in Staffordshire, UK, with my husband and three wonderful children. An avid reader and writer of romance, I strongly believe that words make the world go around. I like nothing more than to be swept away by the words on a page. I hope I can sweep you away too.

4* Review-Release Day Blitz-Fatal Abduction- Julia Crane (IFCS#3)

Fatal Abduction

 Fatal Abduction

Release Day Blitz

November 3, 2014

FA

There’s a serial killer at large. His victims just happen to resemble Kaitlyn—dark haired, pale skin and athletic build. Kaitlyn goes undercover, attending a prestigious high school to try to lure the killer into a trap and save the lives of other potential victims. Will she be able to catch the killer before his body count rises? Or will she become the next victim?

My Review

Fatal Abduction (IFCS, #3)‘Fatal Abduction’ is a psychological thriller with paranormal elements, aimed at young adults. This is the first of Julia Crane’s books I have read. I didn’t realise it was part of a series until I looked on Goodreads and found out it is book 3 in the IFCS series. The story works as a standalone read, with enough back-story to make the characters understandable. For an enhanced reading experience, read the series in sequence.
The moving prologue sets the scene perfectly. The well-paced plot flows well. The multi person points of view, make the story immediate and realistic. The serial killer is threatening because of his apparent normality and again this adds to the story’s authenticity.
It did seem a little rushed in parts, much is made of Kaitlyn posing as bait for the serial killer in the blurb but this is an anti-climax because she never appears to be under threat from the killer. I liked the victim point of view from Eliza and the paranormal threads in her point of view, more of this would have increased the drama of the story. A little more detail about why the antagonist became a serial killer, maybe by making his flashbacks more detailed would have made him more menacing.
‘Fatal Abduction’ is an interesting, quick read for those who like thrillers and covert avengers.
I received a copy of this book from the author via Mark My Word Book Publicity in return for an honest review.

Excerpt -2 “Looking for someone in particular, or just attempting to learn some new dance moves?” I turned to the side to find Seth, drink in hand, smiling at me. This man had all the confidence in the world and there was no doubt as to why.
“No one in particular, no.” I smiled biting the edge of my lip in an attempt to appear flirty before going back to my empty drink. Damn. Do I really need another glass? My heart raced and stomach dropped. I was tipsy, and tipsy was dangerous.
Seth chuckled like he knew I was lying, but was too polite to say so. “I see,” he replied, with a mock frown. “You see,” he continued as he leaned in close enough to only have to whisper. “I secretly hoped you were looking for me.”
I turned my face towards his, and now we were only inches apart. He smelled of fresh cloves and the sky right after a long rainfall. I didn’t know how to respond, so I went with a breathy, nearly inaudible sound mimicking the word, “oh.”
“May I have this dance?” he asked, a seriousness still on his face as he extended his hand. I didn’t answer, but instead put my drink down and let him escort me to the floor. Seth walked me out towards the center and then held me close. The tempo of the music didn’t matter. His intent was to hold me and he didn’t seem like a man that heard no often.
A heat radiated from within me. From deep down, an energy pulsed. How could he have such an effect on me? He held me close and firm. It comforted and excited me at the same time. I finally relaxed and nestled in closer. It was only a dance, I might as well enjoy it. Our lives were worlds apart. If I were honest, this would most likely be the last time I saw him unless I was tending to his yard.
“You look ravishing tonight, Terran.” Seth’s slight British accent made his words even more enticing.
“Thank you,” I said, shyness crept over me as I bowed my head so I didn’t have to look him in the eyes.
“Your makeup and jewelry are remarkable. However this stone doesn’t do your other necklace justice. Your father had impeccable taste.”
I was sort of confused by the change in topic, but I didn’t care. A gorgeous man held me and told me I was the beautiful one.
“You are special. Do you know that, Terran?” He stopped our dancing and moved his hand from the small of my back to the side of my face, cupping my cheek and placing the barest touch of his thumb on my lips. My mouth parted as the energy inside me grew and blossomed. His eyes bore into mine as we stared at one another.
Then, without warning, he withdrew his hand and placed it on my back again, motioning me to dance.
“Do you have plans for next Saturday?”
“I don’t think so, no.” A date?
“I have a dinner party to attend at Mr. and Mrs. Parker’s home Saturday afternoon. Would you please be my guest? I promise to take you out somewhere pleasant afterward.” He laughed. I guess he wasn’t too fond of them either. “You would make it so much better. I’d love to spend more time with you.”
My eyes widened and I didn’t know what to say. This would be my first date since I lost the boys.
“Please?” he asked and placed his hand on my face again, only this time he leaned in closer. I was frozen and couldn’t move. Shock crept over me along with the glow of my skin. And as he reached in and placed the barest of kisses on my cheek whispering, “please” once again, I could feel a pulse of energy form around us. I looked to the other dancers and no one seemed to notice, so it must have been in my head. It was a small rush of power, but tasted as sweet as the power had tasted in the woods.

Hard to Forget – Incy Black – Release Day Spotlight and 5* Review (Hard to…#2)

It’s release day for Hard to Forget, the second in the ‘Hard to…’ series from Incy Black.

PostA warning ignored…a love denied

Four years ago, Major Jack Ballentyne followed Special Agent Lowry Fisk into a death trap. Fortunately, both of them lived to tell the tale, but when he had Lowry drummed out of the British Intelligence Service for her own safety—and his own peace of mind—he knew she’d never forgive him.
Lowry Fisk knew, she just knew, that the Service had a mole, and it was up to the Assassins, the secret black-ops unit of the Service she and Jack belonged to, to find him. And as the Assassins leader, Jack should have believed her, even though she had little evidence beyond a gut feeling. But when he hadn’t, she’d taken it upon herself to find the traitor—and ended up assaulted, shot, and left for dead. Jack had come to her rescue, but it had been too little, too late. Now all she wants to do is forget the attack, the Service, and the sexy, steely-eyed Major with the power to make her feel weak.
But the mole is on the move, and he’s coming for Lowry to finish what he started. Jack has to get the stubborn, dangerously gorgeous woman to let him back into her life and allow him to protect her—without allowing her to worm her way into his heart.

My Review 2‘Hard to Forget’ is a fast-paced, gritty, sexy story. Full of strong, realistic characters, which showcase this author’s amazing, unique voice perfectly. The dark, action- packed scenarios are not for the squeamish. Every unsavoury incident reveals more about Jack and Lowry and those involved in their deadly pursuit.

Jack and Lowry are characterised by their mental toughness and emotional detachment. Haunted by a terrible incident in their professional past, their physical scars hide unwanted emotional vulnerability. This makes them wary of the other’s motives and unwilling to acknowledge the desire that draws them together. The sexual tension between Jack and Lowry explodes into heat and steam and finally love. A happy ever after hangs in the balance. Will they overcome their inner demons and outwit the deadly menace that pursues them?

This story is relentless there is no time to sit back and relax but it’s worth the angst. ‘Hard to Forget’ has the addictive quality of a spy novel combined with the grit and realism of a psychological thriller.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

It took a swan dive from a roof to convince Incy (aged 5) she wasn’t an avenging fairy and that no, she most certainly couldn’t fly. Bruised but undefeated she retreated deeper into her make-believe world populated with the brave and the poisonous.
When not fighting injustice and righting wrongs on ‘Planet Incy’ she works as a Marketing Director. (Unfortunately, her law degree languishes unused, the distinction between good and evil proving too worrisome in real life.)
Her five children are well versed in what scares her (most things) and delight in pushing her neurotic buttons—at their peril.
