The Marquess Meets His Match Laura Martin 4*#Review @MillsandBoon @HarlequinBooks #HarlequinHistorical #MillsandBoonHistorical #Romance #Regency #BookReview #TheMarquessMeetsHisMatch #MillsandBoonInsiders #MatchmadeMarriages

Farmer’s daughter Charlotte Greenacre regrets attending a matchmaker’s party when she has to spend it avoiding her enemy, Lord Robert Overby! Until she learns the handsome widower is not the villain she thought — and after his unhappy marriage he doesn’t want a new wife. That should mean she can relax in his company — if it weren’t for the irritating flare of attraction between them!

Amazon UK

I received a copy of this book from Mills and Boon via NetGalley.

My Thoughts…

Charlotte finds herself at a house party of a benevolent lady determined to help young debutantes have the season they deserve. Charlotte doesn’t see marriage on her horizon but running the family farm after her father’s sudden death. Charlotte is a quirky and likeable character. Robert has a scandalous unhappy marriage in his past and is not looking to find another wife. He is attracted to independently spirited Charlotte, and despite misunderstandings and misconceptions about each other, they cannot deny their mutual attraction.

I enjoyed this Regency romance that reflects the society of the time and the developing romance between Charlotte and Robert. A vividly described setting full of pertinent historical detail and a believable cast of supporting characters make this an engaging, humorous and romantic escapist story,

Last Seen Alive Jane Bettany 5*#Review @JaneBettany @HQStories #CrimeFiction #LastSeenAlive #BlogTour #BookReview #DIIsabelBlood

When Anna Matheson fails to collect her son from the babysitter after a works party, the police are swiftly called. Anna is a stickler for time and a good mother – she would never abandon her baby. Her disappearance is totally out of character and DI Isabel Blood and her team soon suspect foul play.

CCTV footage shows Anna was last seen at precisely 11.11pm, as she collected her coat to leave the party. But the cameras outside the venue have failed to pick up her exit from the car park – how could she have vanished in plain sight?

Rumour has it that Anna was set to make big changes in the workplace, and Isabel can’t help but think someone wanted her out of the way.

Everyone at the party is a suspect, and all the clues point to murder…

I received a copy of this book from HQ via NetGalley.

My Thoughts…

Another riveting instalment of the DI Isabel Blood series with the disappearance of a young single mother after a works party; there is a locked room vibe to this story that has numerous suspects, a few unexpected twists and a detailed police investigation. Set in Derbyshire with an authentic setting and believable cast of characters, this is an immersive reading experience. The characters are relatable and flawed with secrets. I enjoyed working out the connections between characters and their pasts.

The investigation unfolds realistically, with false leads and partial stories before the final unexpected conclusion.

The Cruiser by Rowan Rossler 5*#Review @RosslerRowan @lovebookstours #TheCruiser #Booktour #Bookreview #TheHustlers

From award-winning storyteller, Rowan Rossler comes The Cruiser, a deliciously heartfelt millionaire playboy romp where navigating the choppy waters of desire is anything but smooth sailing.

Morgan de Rohan-Chabot is Monaco’s most notorious yacht designer. A maverick playboy with a reputation for leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake. Young, talented, not to mention sexy AF, he’s also got a boatload of attitude.

In other words, he’s my perfect public relations challenge. So what if he’s trouble with a capital T?

I’m a pro. Vandana Hillman: the Queen of Luxury PR.

My life’s just blown up, I need a distraction, and Morgan wants me to join him on the glittering shores of Monaco to help him land a conservative Saudi Prince as a client.

Ten days. In and out. No biggie, right?

What could possibly go wrong?

I received a copy of this book from the author.

My Thoughts…

A glamorous, sensual romance set in Monaco with believable characters and vibrant settings that keep the reader turning the pages. The story centres on Morgan, a playboy yacht designer and Vandana, a partner in a successful PR company based in LA.

The chemistry between the couple is apparent from their first meeting, and the development of their romance is passionately sensual. The plot is easy to follow with a few twists. Their romance has plenty of contemporary styled conflicts that make it relatable.

This enjoyable romance is a perfect beach read full of emotion, fame and sensuality.

With This Kiss Carrie Hope Fletcher 4*#Review @CarrieHFletcher @HQStories #WithThisKiss #Romance #contemporaryfiction #supernatural #BlogTour #BookReview #fantasy

From the outside, Lorelai is an ordinary young woman with a normal life. She loves reading, she works at the local cinema and she adores living with her best friend. But she carries a painful burden, something she’s kept hidden for years; whenever she kisses someone on the lips, she sees how they are going to die. But she’s never known if she’s seeing what was always meant to be, or if her kiss is the thing that decides their destiny. And so, she hasn’t kissed anyone since she was sixteen.

Then she meets Grayson. Sweet, clever, funny Grayson. And for the first time in years, she yearns for a man’s kiss. But she can’t… or can she? And if she does, should she try to intervene and change what she sees?

Spellbinding, magical and utterly original, With This Kiss is one love story you will never forget.

Amazon UK

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

My Thoughts…

Lorelai is a theatrical character. Despite her ordinary job, she is creative and quirky, but her ability to see someone’s death when she kisses them dominates her life and makes her shy away from love. A new adult romance with a supernatural twist best describes this story. It’s an emotional journey of self-realisation for Lorelai as she comes to terms with her unusual ability. Told in the present day and from Lorelai’s past experiences, the reader gains an insight into the character and her motivations. I like the use of sensory imagery and the distinctive characterisation.

Emotional and original, this story is engaging and evocative to read.

Secrets Behind The Billionaire’s Return Rachael Stewart 5*#Review @rach_b52 @MillsandBoon @HarlequinBooks @rararesources #MillsandBoonTrueLove #secondchance #BookBlitz #BookReview #Romance #giveaway #SecretsBehindTheBillionairesReturn

Find out what happens when a billionaire returns to Felicity’s life in book one of Rachael Stewart’s new duet, Claiming the Ferrington Empire, from Harlequin Romance.

The man she never forgot…

The feelings she never lost…

Sixteen years ago, Felicity fell in love with the boy from Ferrington Manor. But their affair was short-lived when Sebastian vanished and she was left with the secret consequence of their love. Now he’s back and his return sends shock waves through Felicity! Will the revelations about Sebastian’s departure be enough for Felicity to succumb to the feelings that still draw her to him?

Amazon UK

I received a copy of this book from the author.

My Thoughts…

Sebastian can’t face returning to the house and estate where he grew up sixteen years after leaving. He is drawn to the local B&B and wonders if his first love is still there. Felicity’s feelings quickly surface when Sebastian walks into her life after sixteen years. Nothing has changed in her heart, but she has a big secret to share.

Full of angst, passion and romance, this is a lovely story. Felicity is an easy character to like. Sebastian is troubled, and their second chance takes them through many emotions. A heartwarming read with realistic circumstances and a lovely romantic conclusion.

Rachael Stewart

Rachael Stewart adores conjuring up stories, from heartwarmingly romantic to wildly erotic.

She’s been writing since she could put pen to paper as the stacks of scrawled-on pages in her loft will attest to, and the lovingly bound short stories that her father would run off at work and proudly share out with his colleagues. Thinking it was a pipe dream to be published one day, she pursued a sensible career in business but she was really play-acting, achieving the appropriate degree and spending many years in the corporate world where she never truly belonged. Always happiest when she was sat at her laptop in the quiet hours tapping out a story or two. And so here she is a published author, her full-time pleasure, a dream come true.

A Welsh lass at heart, she now lives in Yorkshire with her very own hero and three awesome kids, and if she’s not tapping out a story, she’s wrapped up in them or enjoying the great outdoors.

The Girls Bella Osborne 5*#Review @osborne_bella @AriaFiction @HoZ_Books @Amy_C_Watson #BookReview #BlogTour #PublicationDay #TheGirls #friendship #age #mystery #love #life

Four old friends. Thrown back together after forty years apart. What could possibly go wrong?

In the 1970s, The Girls were best friends sharing a house and good times: Zara the famous diva actor, Val the uptight solicitor, Jackie the wild child and Pauline the quirky introvert. Now they’re in their twilight years, and Zara suggests that they live with her to support each other through old age.

Initially, being housemates again is just as much fun as in their heyday. But then Zara reveals the real reason she asked them to move in with her, and suddenly things take a sinister turn.

As the women confront their demons they come under the spotlight of the press, the police and an angry parrot. With their lives spiralling out of control can they save their friendships and each other?

Amazon UK Kobo

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

My Thoughts…

I enjoy the current literary trend in fiction toward older women and their lives. The four characters in this story are so different but whatever drew them to live together when they were young intensifies when circumstances conspire to let them live together in their later years.

The story is told from three friends’ viewpoints, giving the reader an intimate insight into their past and present lives and motivations. The fourth friend Zara is the catalyst for their reconnection after nearly fifty years, and it’s her glamorous lifestyle allows them to be together again.

Friendship is an important theme in this story, exploring other contemporary issues like domestic abuse and mental health through the characters’ lives. I loved the story’s vibrant characters and the glamorous setting. The cosy mystery vibe that develops is facilitated by the setting and shows how deep the friendship between the women is.

The vivid characterisation and a believable blend of humour and poignancy make this an engaging and uplifting read.

Bella Osborne has been jotting down stories as far back as she can remember but decided that 2013 would be the year that she finished a full-length novel. In 2016, her debut novel, It Started At Sunset Cottage was shortlisted for the Contemporary Romantic Novel of the Year and RNA Joan Hessayon New Writers Award. Bella’s stories are about friendship, love and coping with what life throws at you. She likes to find humour in the darker moments of life and weaves these into her stories. Bella believes that writing your own story really is the best fun ever, closely followed by talking, eating chocolate, drinking fizz and planning holidays. She lives in the Midlands, UK with her lovely husband and wonderful daughter, who thankfully, both accept her as she is (with mad morning hair and a penchant for skipping).

Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market Nicola May 5* #Review @NicolaMay1 @HodderBooks @rararesources #Cornwall #Market #Family #Friendship #Relationships #Romance #Art #love #mystery #SelfRealisation #BlogTour #BookReview #PublicationDay #giveaway

Book Three in bestselling sensation Nicola May’s gorgeous new series – catch up with Book One, WELCOME TO FERRY LANE MARKET, and Book Two, STARRY SKIES IN FERRY LANE MARKET, now!

39-year-old Glanna Pascoe – also known as ‘the Rainbow Painter’ – runs the Hartmouth Gallery in Ferry Lane Market in Cornwall. She is just getting her head and broken heart around being single, childless, and sober when Cupid flies in, shooting arrows all over the place.

Meeting the mysterious and fascinating Isaac Benson, a famous local artist, and recluse, allows Glanna’s disillusioned heart and attitude to soften, and she begins to learn more about herself than she ever thought possible. Confused by her growing feelings for Isaac, Glanna throws herself into organising a life-drawing class at her gallery, using both male and female nudes – and setting local tongues wagging.

A theft from her gallery and the return of ex-love Oliver Trueman cause Glanna to wonder if a pot of gold will be appearing at the end of her rainbow. And will it bring her the happiness, she has sought for so long?

Amazon UK Amazon

I received a copy of this book from Hodder and Stoughton.

My Thoughts…

Ferry Lane Market is a memorable setting, and the author brings it to life with its relatable characters and detailed description. Glanna’s journey of self-realisation is believably poignant. Her battle with addiction and her lack of self despite her material wealth resonates. Old friends from the market reappear, sharing their life events, and there are plenty of humorous interludes.

I enjoyed getting to know the Ferry Lane Market community, who are standout characters. This book is most notable for its lovely friendships and the element of forgiveness it portrays. A perfect summer read set in a picturesque coastal location, immersive and uplifting.

My Thoughts…

It’s clear from the heartwarming nature of this story that these characters are special to the author. I love the beautifully flawed quality of the characters that make them so relatable. Carly and her friends are off on a road trip with Aunty Val. This bucket list adventure has many surprises, but the strength of the friendship and familial connections are at its heart.

I love the characters, the often hilarious things that happen to them and the poignant moments that make it authentic. I enjoyed every moment, and I hope it won’t be their last adventure together.

Breakneck Point T.Orr Munro 4*#Review @HQStories @TinaOrrMunro #BlogTour #BookReview #CrimeFiction #Forensic #CrimeScenesInvestigation #BreakneckPoint #NorthDevon #suspense

CSI Ally Dymond’s commitment to justice has cost her a place on the major investigations team. After exposing corruption in the ranks, she’s stuck working petty crimes on the sleepy North Devon coast.

Then the body of nineteen-year-old Janie Warren turns up in the seaside town of Bidecombe, and Ally’s expert skills are suddenly back in demand.

But when the evidence she discovers contradicts the lead detective’s theory, nobody wants to listen to the CSI who landed their colleagues in prison.

Time is running out to catch a killer no one is looking for – no one except Ally. What she doesn’t know is that he’s watching, from her side of the crime scene tape, waiting for the moment to strike.

Amazon UK

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

My Thoughts…

I enjoyed the setting for this crime thriller as it is atmospheric and relatable. Ally, a CSI whose quest for truth defines her, is relegated to routine jobs when she refuses to back up a colleague’s falsification of evidence. Called to a murder scene because of her forensic skills, she is still at odds with her colleagues, and an intensely political game ensues as she tries to expose the killer.

It’s a character-driven story that has serial potential. Ally is streetwise and driven and someone you would want on your side. This engaging dual viewpoint story gives the reader an omnipotent view of events with believable characters and a twisty plot.

Amazon UK

I received a copy of this book from Harper Fiction.

My Thoughts…

Who’s Lying Now? is compelling contemporary fiction set against the backdrop of lockdown in the UK. Told from varying viewpoints with timelines before and after Jeannie’s disappearance, this keeps you guessing with multiple suspects and a fast-paced, twisty plot.

The lockdown setting familiar to most is instantly relatable and immerses the reader in the story. The tangle of interrelationships surrounding the missing women intensifies the suspense and adds layers of deception to the plot, especially as many viewpoints are unreliable.

The balance of the detectives’ investigation and the elements of psychological suspense are intriguing and make this an absorbing read.
