My Thoughts…

Dax is an extreme snowboarder with a tragic past and a six-year-old son he has just met. Single mother Simone has an understanding of what Dax is experiencing. Their children are friends. Dax needs someone to take care of his son at Christmas in Chamonix. Is Simone willing to be that person?

The Parisian setting for the couple’s first meeting is atmospheric and magical, drawing the reader into the story’s festive ambience. Their first meeting sparks an attraction even though they don’t initially realise the significance of it. Simone and Dax are lovely characters who have to overcome their emotional barriers to find happiness. The romance is gentle, and the conflicts, to their being together, authentic.

This story has everything you want in a festive romance, characters you believe in, heartwarming emotion and a happy conclusion.

My Thoughts…

It’s a while since I’ve read a romance in this category, and now I’m wondering why, as it’s the perfect blend of friendship, intrigue, passion and romance. It starts with a dramatic altercation, and the chemistry intensifies from then on. With passionate interludes and moments of regret, this story takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster.

Dominic’s outward playboy persona masks his role in helping victims of domestic abuse and violence. Meredith, a successful investigative journalist, thinks Dominic’s nightclub is a front for trafficking. She doesn’t want to believe her best friend’s brother is involved, so she confronts him. His denials lack explanations, but she can’t resist the intense attraction between them. Her desire is evident, but she needs the truth, if she is to follow, her heart.

Set against a background of danger, intrigue and secrets, is an intense relationship. Their emotional commitment follows as Dominic’s secret life unfolds.

They see everything. They hear everything. They know everything.

When a young police officer, Derek Sullivan, goes missing, the detective investigating his disappearance turns to criminologist Anna Scavolini – Derek’s one-time university lecturer – for help. Haunted by the belief that she failed in her duty of care towards her former student, Anna finds herself drawn increasingly deeper into the investigation.

Meanwhile, Zoe Callahan – once Anna’s best friend, now unhappily estranged – becomes preoccupied with unsettling rumours involving her old school. Uncovering a trail of evidence implicating the most powerful men in Scottish society in a scandal stretching back decades, she soon attracts the attention of sinister forces who don’t look kindly on those who disturb the past…

A missing police officer, a highly coveted list of names, a fatal car crash on a rainswept night – what connects these seemingly unrelated threads? And who are the mysterious Shadow Men, whose very name strikes terror into the hearts of everyone who hears it?

My Thoughts…

The third book in the Anna Scavolini series takes Anna into a hidden criminal world that preys on the most vulnerable. This book explores institutional abuse and is disturbing reading. This story’s menacing ethos intensifies as powerful men fight the investigation into their activities. Believable characters make this story authentic, poignant and relevant. The plot draws all its elements together to create an impactful ending.

Complex protagonists, evil antagonists and a relentless investigation make this a compelling read.
