My Thoughts on #TheChristmasKiller #Sampler

This is a police procedural with a festive setting. James, a detective inspector in the Met moves to Cumbria when the threat of vengeance from a gangland boss looms. The village in Cumbria, the childhood home of his wife Annie has its share of deceit, hate and secrets but is someone willing to kill?

James is a likeable protagonist, straightforward and dedicated. Annie’s past in the village is chequered. Has her moving back started something dreadful?

In this initial sample of the story, there are no murders, only menace and threats. Suspense builds as the possible suspects emerge.

This is going to be a Christmas the villagers’ don’t forget. I look forward to reading what happens next.

My Thoughts…

Exploring the non-touristy side of Tenerife this is an emotional and enjoyable uplit story. The setting, seen through the eyes of main character Sophie, makes an impact. The story of rebuilding a life after caring for a loved one is poignant and realistic and makes Sophie easy to empathise.

This is an escapist read, so fate takes a hand in the proceedings. Sophie’s multigenerational relationship with Hugo is humorous and rewarding. The chance for romance surprises Sophie but makes her braver as she tries to map out her future. Enigmatic Alex or friendly Dominic, who will she choose?

Gentle romance humour and poignancy fuse together to provide a lovely way to escape for a couple of hours.

My Thoughts…

Love, hate, families and relationships are all explored against the delightful setting of Hedgehog Hollow.

The flawed and relatable characters are the driving force of this story. Samantha is lovely, always willing to help. Her outlook on life makes her loved by everyone, except her mother? This relationship is distressing. You empathise with Sam and marvel at her resilience. Sam’s interaction with Thomas is particularly poignant, and more than a little serendipitous.

Gentle romance and genuine heartbreak make this an emotional story. Angst tempered with lighter moments means this is a heartwarming and uplifting to read.

Jessica Redland is the author of nine novels, including The Secret to Happiness, which are all set around the fictional location of Whitsborough Bay. Inspired by her hometown of Scarborough she writes uplifting women’s fiction which has garnered many devoted fans.
