Cecily has always had a huge crush on singer Andrew Holiday and she wants to be an actress, so she tags along when her friend auditions for his new video. However, the director isn’t looking for an actress, but rather the girl next door—and so is Andrew. Cecily gets a part in the video and all of Andrew’s attention on the set. Her friend begins to see red and Cecily’s boyfriend is seeing green—as in major jealousy. A misunderstanding leaves Cecily and her boyfriend on the outs and Andrew hopes to pick up the pieces as he’s looking for someone more stable in his life than the models he’s dated. Soon Cecily begins to realize Andrew understands her more than her small-town boyfriend—but can her perfect love match really be her favorite rock star?

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
My Thoughts…
Perfectly pitched, for teens and young adults, this book explores first love, teenage crushes, and friendship groups, with relatable characters and realistic situations. We experience life with teenage Cecily as she gets a chance to follow a dream and meet her teenage crush. Written in the first person it has an immediacy, important in this type of literature.
Set in North America, it may not reflect teenage life elsewhere. However, the challenges, friendships, romances and problems are something most young people have in common. It has an innocence and naivety you’d expect for this age group but doesn’t shy away from the issues faced by contemporary teens.
As a Gran, it’s a while since I’ve been a teen, but it is enjoyable reading and has valuable life lessons for the intended age group.
