His heart is a fortress… And she’s trespassing!
After losing all he holds dear in a horrific fire, Max Aldersley, Earl of Rivenhall, shuns the world—until he catches Effie Nithercott digging holes on his estate! He banishes the intrepid archaeologist and the unsettled feelings she rouses within him. But she returns even more determined and infuriatingly desirable than before! He wonders just how deep she’s prepared to dig—so far she’ll reach the man beneath his scars?

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

My Thoughts…

Darkness surrounds Max, after suffering disfiguring injuries, and emotional scars. Effie is Intelligent and quirky. Effie doesn’t fit with society’s norms and doesn’t want to. She enjoys unearthing relics, from the dark earth, and this is where Max finds her. Initially, a case of mistaken identity, Effie ruffles Max’s calm, dark life, and drags him back to the present.

A charming often humorous tale, of two individuals who don’t conform. The romance sizzles quietly, as the two souls gravitate. The characters are easy to warm to. The chemistry, which grows between them is authentic and enticing.

The eventual happy-ever-after is so deserved and leaves you with a happy sigh.
