Release Blitz – Brittney Coon- Breaking Down Sydney – A Sydney West Novel #2

BDS cover

Winter Blurb

Sydney West’s new relationship might have survived Malibu, but her transformation from party girl to girlfriend isn’t complete…

Sydney is back in Arizona, and with the fall semester at her doorstep, doubts about her so-called summer love start to plague her. A good girl can only stay good for so long. Jason King changed her and made her wonder if love was real. But now, far from his charm, and with the party scene on campus in full swing, the magic is fading…

Jason isn’t willing to let distance drive a wedge between them…

A surprise reunion and a romantic cabin getaway is enough to reignite their summertime spark, but Sydney isn’t convinced this whole monogamous, meeting-your-parents thing Jason wants is possible. No boy has ever met her mother. Then, when a sudden family tragedy strikes, it sends her spiraling into her old habits of booze and boys.

Sydney can only hide from her past for so long…

In the fog of drowning her sorrows, Sydney realizes her former party lifestyle won’t make her happy. Her one-night stands ended with Jason. As much as she wants to believe in that far-fetched fairytale ending, she’s afraid if Jason finds out about all her summer boys, he will abandon her just like her father did.

Jason refuses to settle for the superficial shell Sydney keeps between them, though, and is determined to…

Break Down Sydney once and for all.

I’m Keeping You – Jane Lark – Blog Tour – 5* Review

1

Today I have Jane Lark on my blog talking about top tips for romantic dates in New York, as part of her ‘I’m Keeping You’ blog tour. I’ve enjoyed reading the books in the ‘ Starting Out’ series. If it’s new to you, here are my reviews of previous books in the series. Click on the image to read my review.

I'mKeepingYou

Winter Blurb

The sequel to the US bestselling NA romance, I Found You.

The sun was warm on my hair and face. The river looked cool and inviting. I felt superhuman. I was the best mom in the world…

I’ve faced many demons in my life, but my bipolar brain is the enemy inside me. Even my fairytale knight in shining armour, my husband, Jason, cannot always be there to save me from myself – and since the day I walked into a river with our precious baby son, Saint, our relationship has changed, no matter what he tells me.

Now we risk losing our innocent boy again, but this time to his biological father, my sleazy ex, Declan. So I’m going to New York to fight for my family, but I’m scared because I have to fight myself too. I ran away from my life in New York it feels like going back could ruin everything but if I don’t go we might lose Saint. I can’t lose Saint…or Jason…

Jason’s and Rachel’s top tips for a romantic date in New York

Underneath the Dumbo end of Manhattan Bridge is a small park with a gravel beech where you can get down close the water, and if you have kids there’s a fairground ride around the corner, it’s a place they’ll take Saint to later, and at sunset a place for a quieter more romantic atmosphere, it’s really quiet there compared to the main Brooklyn Bridge Park.

A date night dinner at Clark’s Diner/Restaurant opposite the exit from the Clark St Subway stop in Brooklyn. They serve amazing fried chicken and waffles and at amazing prices too 😉

Prospect Park a less tourist filled escape from the New York traffic than Central Park, but it has its own Zoo, and a period house, with lovely quiet romantic walks about a lake where you can be serenaded by buskers whose music echoes back from under the arches of the wide stone bridges.

A trip to Coney Island ‘the playground of the world’ – ‘down by the boardwalk’. How fabulous to be able to have a day on the beach and dip your toes in the ocean on the edge of a capital city and to ride the rollercoasters and play old fashioned fairground games, as well as getting your fortune told by Zoltar.

For a hotter night out, The Ravel Hotel, restaurant and nightclub, Penthouse808, with awesome views of the heart of New York, great cocktails, try a Blueberry Mojito, and music.

BoHo Karaoke Orchard, Manhattan, because as we all know from the first book in the series, I Found You, Rachel loves a bit of Karaoke when she’s high and Jason has become a convert and caught ahold of her excitement.

Winter My Review

Rachel and Jason love each other but living the dream is harder than dreaming the dream. Their relationship undergoes some severe tests, as they battle for the custody of Saint and come to terms with the reality of living with mental illness.

The dual points of view give a realistic insight into Rachel and Jason’s raw emotions, as they fight their own fears and an outside force that threatens their family unit. The plot is simple but the characters are complex and if you empathised with Rachel and Jason in ‘I Found You’, you will be firmly in their corner for this book.

Sensual, shocking and sleek, this story pulls you in with its angst and holds your attention with its believable characters and plot until the last word.

I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Photo - Jane LarkJane is a writer of authentic, passionate and emotional Historical and New Adult romance and author of a No.1 bestselling Historical Novel,’The Illicit Love of a Courtesan’, as well as a Kindle overall top 25, bestselling author in the United States of America.

She began her first historical novel at sixteen, but a life full of adversity derailed her as she lives with the restrictions of Ankylosing Spondylitis.

When she finally completed a novel it was because she was determined not to reach forty still saying, I want to write.

Now Jane is writing a Regency series as well as contemporary, new adult, stories and she is thrilled to be giving her characters life in others’ imaginations at last.

You might think that Jane was inspired to write by Jane Austen, especially as she lives near Bath in the United Kingdom, but you would be wrong. Jane’s favourite author is Anya Seton, and the book which drew her into the bliss of falling into historical imagination was ‘Katherine’ a story crafted from reality.

Jane has drawn on this inspiration to discover other real-life love stories, reading memoirs and letters to capture elements of the past, and she uses these to create more realistic plots.

‘Basically I love history and I am sucker for a love story. I love the feeling of falling in love; it’s wonderful being able to do it time and time again in fiction.’

Jane is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development in the United Kingdom, and uses this specialist understanding of people to bring her characters to life.

Authors Blog Challenge – My Writing Room #LifeBooksWriting

13118917_544495715723232_7874467364954798303_n

It’s lovely to be part of the  Author Blog Challenge #LifeBooksWriting, organised by my fellow Limitless Publishing author Sophia Valentine ; whose debut book I reviewed earlier in the year. If you’re an author and would like to join in the fun, download the graphic and post it and the hash tag with your Friday post. Hopefully it will be an opportunity to get to know more authors and their works for both readers and writers.

Today’s blog challenge is to share my writing room with you. A couple of years ago I had a dedicated writing room/ office, which was lovely but since the birth of  my little grandson, the office has become a nursery  and now I write in our family room downstairs, which is great ,as it looks out onto the garden and has lots of comfy sofa’s to sit on.

Working in the family room is challenging. There are lots of interruptions, but it means I get to spend my writing time with my lovely dogs,  Jazz and Oby. Tom, my cat used to join us on winter afternoons and we really miss him since he died on New Year’s day

When the weather is fine I love to write in the garden,  and writing on the beach when I go on holiday is something I look forward to.

I wrote my latest release  The Dangerous Gift  in all these places.

Ivy Kendall’s only plan for her life was to teach, but then it all fell apart…

When Rory Clark disappears from UCLA after a lengthy online relationship with a “catfish” pretending to be Ivy, the sassy former model turned kindergarten teacher is forced to dive headfirst into the mystery in order to clear her name. The catfishing phenomenon meets good, old-fashioned police work when Cameron Lewis, a bossy San Francisco detective with a dominant streak, offers to help her uncover the awful truth about her stolen identity and Rory’s disappearance.

They’ve barely scratched the surface when Ivy is charged with a murder she swears she didn’t commit.

Her greatest fear becomes reality when the ugly truth is revealed and their lives come tumbling down around them.

Poppy - Excerpt

I’m between sets when Erin slips into Mitch’s around eleven, her hair hanging in ringlets down her back. She’s in a flirty black dress paired with a jean jacket and cowboy boots. And she is definitely wearing her good bra if the cleavage she’s sporting is any indication. A few appreciative gazes follow her as she slides into the corner booth across from me, but she doesn’t notice.

“Sorry,” she says. “I had to run errands and I lost track of time. Getting anywhere in this city on a Friday night is a pain in the ass. Are you going to finish these?” She point at my cheese fries, and then reaches out and snags one, popping it into her mouth before I can answer. I push them toward her, too full to eat anything else. “Nice crowd,” she says, her gaze darting around the room before she turns back to me. She pops another cheese fry into her mouth. “Any hotties tonight?”

“The guy in the back.” I shift my gaze in his direction, subtly pointing him out to her. He’s in the very back corner of the bar, sitting in a dark booth by himself, nursing a beer. He’s been there all night, staring at me. I haven’t been able to get a good look at him, but what I have seen? Damn.  With  dark hair, deep golden skin, and a day’s worth of scruff on his face, he’s gorgeous. Bold  tattoos peek from beneath the arms of the simple black tee he’s wearing. He’s big, powerful, his jeans and tee stretching over the muscles they encase. If anyone in the bar fits the hottie bill, it’s him.

“Damn,” Erin says, licking her lips.

“He’s been staring at me all night,” I grumble, not sure if I’m more irritated or turned on. And that’s a mystery in and of itself. Since when did complete strangers make heat pool low in my stomach? Apparently since Tall, Dark and Brooding walked into the bar and parked his fine ass in the corner.

“Of course he has.” Erin rolls her eyes. “You look hot.”

“Thanks.” My jet black hair is up in an intricate braid, and I’m wearing just enough makeup to make my green eyes pop, but my dress is shorter and tighter than I usually wear. I love the way the slinky material feels against my skin. The top is a halter with the bottom barely reaching mid-thigh. The dark purple color seems to shimmer under the lights of the stage. I love the way it looks.

“Hey.” Erin grabs Mitch by the hand as he starts to pass by.

“What’s up, doll?” he asks, winking at her. Mitch is an incurable flirt. He’s also old enough to be her father, but that’s never stopped him. In the year I’ve known him, he’s never lacked for female companionship either, so clearly the whole charming rogue thing is working for him.

“The guy in the back. Who is he?”

Mitch turns to look over his shoulder, his light eyes narrowing on the mystery man.”Don’t know. Why?” He turns those eyes on me, crossing his arms over his muscular chest. “Is he bothering you?”

“No,” I wave him off before he can get all protective. Staring isn’t a crime. I don’t want the guy tossed out because he’s a little too focused on me. “He’s
fine.”

 “You sure?”

“Promise.” I shoot Mitch a grin before my gaze darts back to the guy. He’s watching me again, and our eyes meet. He doesn’t look away, instead boldly
holding my gaze. Screw it. Two can plan this game. Crossing my arms over my chest, I tip my chin up and narrow my eyes, glaring at him. The corners of his lips lift in a subtle smirk, almost like he knows I’m silently calling him out and is challenging me. I arch a brow, ignoring the little thrill that zings through me at the gleam in his eyes. God, those eyes. They’re  penetrating, captivating. I’ve never seen such dark gray eyes before, and it’s hot. He is hot, scorching. The way he watches me with that cocky smirk on his face is dominating. He’s in charge, and he knows it. I think my body does too. Heat races through me, my nipples hardening. A bead of sweat rolls down the back of my neck as I clench and unclench my fingers. I’m dying to shift around beneath the weight of his gaze to relieve the ache between my thighs. The tip of his tongue peeks out from between his lips, and he narrows his eyes at me. He’s no longer challenging me to look away first, he’s demanding it. Every line of his body screams that command. Heat rolls over me in a wave. Every inch of me burns white hot at the way he’s focusing on me, drawing me in…silently demanding I submit. I drop my gaze to the table, my heart racing. What the hell?  I take a deep breath and then another. My face is burning hot, probably flushed bright red. When I finally gather the nerve to peek up at him again, it’s to see him striding toward the doors, his jeans hugging that fine ass just right. My attention stays glued to him until the door swings closed behind him. He doesn’t look back.

“The hell was that?” Erin asks, tossing a coaster at me.I startle when it lands against my chest, and then blush.

“That was him offering to strip her naked and f**k her on the table,” Mitch says. My blush deepens.

“Think she would have let him?” Erin teases, grinning at me.

“F**k yeah, she would have.” Mitch throws his head back and laughs loudly when I groan.

“I hate both of you,” I mutter, rolling my eyes. Though secretly…I think they’re probably right.

Poppy - Excerpt

“Morning,” Detective Lewis says, leaning against the doorjamb with a cup of coffee in each hand and a smirk on his face. He’s dressed casually today, in jeans and a dark t-shirt. His tattoos once again peek from beneath his sleeves. He’s foregone shaving. The scruff on his face makes him even hotter than usual. He’s all rough and rugged, and what is he doing here?

“What are you doing here?”

He throws his head back and laughs at me, the wicked sound making my belly flip.

His laugh is incredible.

Before I can decide if I’m offended he’s laughing at me, confused that he’s here, or happy to see him again, he straightens up and holds out a cup of coffee like a peace offering.

“Wasn’t sure how you take it,” he says, his hungry gaze running up and down my body. Desire flares in his eyes as he takes in my tank top and tiny shorts, turning them that same dark, stormy gray from yesterday. “But I’m thinking you got about as much sleep as I did last night, so it’s strong.”

I take the proffered coffee, gaping at him.

“You gonna invite me in?” He cocks a brow at me, smirking again.

“Didn’t think I needed to,” I grumble, lifting the cup to my nose and inhaling the rich scent. “You didn’t wait around for an invite yesterday.”

He narrows his eyes on me, clearly not amused by the sarcastic edge to my comment, but I’m not nearly awake enough to heed the warning inherent in that look.

“Sure, Detective Lewis,” I enthuse loudly, holding the door open wide for him and rolling my eyes. “Come on in.”

He steps inside, crowding me even though there’s plenty of room for him to go around me. My nipples immediately pucker as his scent wraps around me. God, why does he have to smell so divine? I can’t deal with him smelling that good this early in the morning, especially not with those tattoos on display.

He crowds closer, until he’s right up in my personal space, his breath washing across the side of my neck. “Dreamed about that smart mouth all night,” he mutters right beside my ear. “So don’t f*** with me if you don’t want me giving you something to fill it with, kitten.”

Jesus. That mouth. That filthy, sexy mouth.

A shiver rolls down my spine, and a little whimper escapes my lips.

He hums as if he’s satisfied by my reaction and steps away, giving me room to pull the door closed. I take a moment to turn the deadbolt, trying to marshal my thoughts before I face him again.

What is he doing here?

And why is he so fascinated with my mouth and filling it?
