THE BRAILLE CLUB by J.A. Kerr Publisher – LIMITLESS PUBLISHING Genre – Contemporary Romance
Welcome to the Braille Club, where blindfolds are mandatory and members play sensual games of pleasurable endurance. Three couples take part in this exclusive, secret club for very different reasons…with very different results.
Benedict Harrison was a master of detachment…
Benedict’s first experience with the Braille Club changed his life forever when a mysterious woman reawakened his emotions and his passion. He encounters the darkly erotic Siena Waters again, and they begin a tumultuous affair and a business partnership, but what will happen if the true nature of their relationship is discovered?
Gabriella Ballantyne’s marriage is in trouble…
Her husband Max has grown cold, and Gabriella seeks out the Braille Club and its decadent delights in an effort to reawaken their hearts and strengthen their marriage. But when she presents him with his own membership card, she sees only revulsion in his eyes. Gabriella must use everything she’s learned from the club in a last-ditch effort to reconnect with Max and resurrect their love.
Abbey Marshall needs an escape from her cheating husband…
Abbey begins sensory lessons at the Braille Club, hoping it will help her regain control of Steve and prevent his straying. When the unthinkable happens, she is consumed with the need to learn the identity of Steve’s latest mistress. Left reeling and with her sanity in jeopardy, a chance visit from her husband’s former teammate might be her last chance to find the answers she needs.
At the Braille Club, the elite membership walks in the dark in order to find the light…they need to be blind before they can see. They’re ready—are you?
Exclusivity, exploitation of sensory deprivation, to heighten sexual pleasure and non- negotiable rules define ‘The Braille Club’ but sensually written erotic romance is only one facet of this complex story. The club’s owner is an enigma. Benedict Harrison has many of the personality traits of the modern day Sherlock Homes. He is frighteningly intelligent but emotionally cut off from the people and world around him because of a traumatic childhood. The club’s creation mirrors Benedict and Siena’s relationship and psychological suspense merges with the erotic romance. The stories of the newest club members add another dimension to this interesting book. I loved Abbey and Gabriella, strong women who have a unique, personal battle to reassert their identity. The characters are complex and reflect the celebrity culture that dominates the 21st century. Erotic romance meets psychological suspense with page turning results. I’m looking forward to book 2. I received a copy of this book from Limitless Publishing in return for an honest review.
JA (Julie Ann) Kerr was born in the spring of 1967 at Paisley’s Ross Hospital in Scotland and grew up in Glasgow. She was an office administrator and latterly a recruitment consultant before marrying and relocating to The Netherlands with her husband. After two years, she moved to Cheshire where her first child was born and returned to work part-time. Her final relocation took her back to her home town of Glasgow where she welcomed the arrival of her second child. She raised her family whilst harbouring dreams of becoming a writer. In September 2013, she started her first book.
The fateful day Mimi Marcus has dreaded begins with a phone call…
The wife of a U.S. Marine, Mimi spent countless nights worried that her husband Joel would fall in the line of duty. He had fought valiantly and served his country with honor. That’s exactly what they tell her when they deliver the news—Joel was taken by the enemy in Afghanistan. Her husband is dead.
In desperate need of closure, Mimi travels to the one place Joel still has ties—The Marcus Ranch in Texas, inherited by his handsome younger brother Austin.
New beginnings are only an illusion…
The closer Mimi grows to the Marcus family, the more she considers it home. But when suspicions of Joel’s past surface, Austin refuses to disclose family secrets—even to his brother’s widow. It’s only by accident she uncovers evidence of Joel’s tainted past. Devastated by his lies and betrayal, she slowly opens up to Austin, and together they unfold layers of pain and grief.
Mimi is sure she’ll never love again, but is Austin the man to prove her wrong? Then the unthinkable happens…
Just as Mimi finds new hope in a future with Austin, Joel returns home from war. Enraged, traumatized, and teetering on the edge of insanity, Joel confesses to a history of deception, revealing yet another secret—this one too terrible to forgive.
In an awful twist of fate, Joel proves marriage vows are made to be honored. No matter what.
This story isn’t what I expected but it’s enthralling and I couldn’t put it down until I’d finished. At the beginning I expected a supernatural element but the story’s twist, is more down to earth, yet keeps you guessing and gasping right to the end.
Mimi and Joel’s serendipitous meeting and whirlwind romance is like a fairytale. Joel’s imminent deployment to a war zone is the only darkness on their horizon. Mimi’s heart rips apart when the unthinkable happens. With more questions than answers when her best friend offers her a lifeline, she grabs it. Meeting her husband’s estranged brother really blows her life apart.
The characters are complex and force you to take sides. Fast paced, the plot is full of surprises and interwoven into the intricate story, romance gives sweet relief to the angst and darkness. Full of impact the ending devastates but the hopeful little twist at the very end made me smile. I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
Novelist, movie addict, and animal lover, Cristina Slough is the author of:
Till Death Us Do Part, her debut novel.
Cristina has always been a bookworm, rarely seen without a pen and paper in her hand, she loves delving into a literacy fictional world of her own.
At the age of 11, her junior school teacher told her mother that she would be wasting her life if she didn’t become an author. Throughout her teenage years and beyond, her parents spurred her on to keep writing. She later began a career in commercial real estate, working in London’s West End, a corporate bubble where she was unable to fuel her passion to write.
It was on her Californian honeymoon in 2012 that the bug to write was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. After visiting Yosemite National Park she was inspired by the natural beauty of the land that surrounded her. Holding a special place in her heart, Yosemite would later be written into her debut novel.
She finally gave up the ‘big smoke’ when her son, Lucas, was born in October 2013.
When Lucas was a newborn, Cristina was told to sleep when the baby sleeps. She never could. There was a calling inside her to write. After getting to grips with her new role as a mother, she began working a psychological thriller, but she couldn’t fully connect to the characters she created. She ditched the manuscript and started Till Death Us Do Part(Limitless Publishing, 2015).
Cristina is married to Adam, who runs a successful business; together they share their Bedfordshire home with their son, crazy white German Shepherd and three spoiled cats. They can be found trekking through woodlands, or around the many shops Cristina loves to explore. As a family, they love to travel frequently, the United States being a firm favourite.
