~Astrid~

He’s a liar. A manipulative ass. He doesn’t deserve a
second chance. Yet I can’t stop thinking about him and that night we shared in
Chicago four weeks ago. He dominates my dreams, making me want him more each
day. Trapped with him at an Ice Hotel in Sweden, do I have a hope in hell
of resisting him? Maybe not, but I’ll kick his ass if he ever calls me his
goddess again.

~Race~

She’s the love of my life, my dream, the goddess I’ve
been waiting an eternity for. I know she hates me for the deceptive life I’ve
led, but I want to give her everything she’s ever craved, fill each second of
her life with bliss. But…trapped for a weekend in the place where my life
went to hell, how can I avoid the nightmare that haunts me? Not to mention the
ass-kicking Astrid will give me when she discovers the darkest secret of my
past.

My Review - Coastal

Fit To Be Tied (a Little Miss Kick-Ass Novella #2)This novella is hot, in more ways than the obvious one; you associate with an erotic romance. The love scenes are steamy and sizzling, as is the chemistry between Astrid and Race but they share more than sexual attraction. There is a strong supernatural element in this story, which makes it special.

Both Astrid and Race have tragic, past, emotional baggage and the story’s gradual unveiling of this, makes it poignant read. There is plenty of humour to balance the sadness and this story retains the characteristic ‘naughty’ scenes, which we enjoyed in ‘Steam Bunny’.
Although part of a series, Astrid’s and Race’s story is standalone and has a lovely romantic, sexy ending and is my favourite story so far.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review

Excerpt - 1

Steamy excerpt (readers 18+):

“I never lied to you,” I say with as much conviction as I can put into my voice without resorting to using my unique gift in persuasion. If she’s going to trust me, she needs to do so on her own.
“No? So sleeping with me to get a deal with my best friend was what? Honest business?” Her eyes flash with anger as she speaks in hushed tones. “You used me, Race. Just like you’re using me now for this stupid reality TV show. If I didn’t love Casey and Lucas so much, there’s no way in hell I’d ever be here as part of this wedding crap. So just shove it with your games and your lies.”
Crossing her arms over her chest, she settles back against her seat and resumes looking out her window.
So edgy and untrusting. Not that I can blame her, but damn. How can I explain to her any differently than the few hundred times I’ve already tried? What will it take to get her to understand, without using my gods-given gift of influence, that meeting her at that Fan Expo convention changed my life forever?
Yes, I went there for business. Yes, my intention was to swindle a deal. And, yes, I set out to do so by compromising the fiery relationship between Lucas and Casey. But it wasn’t the Buxom Bunny who caught my eye.
Maybe I should have ignored my attraction for Astrid and kept on walking by. Saved us from the pain we’re experiencing now by keeping everything strictly business. But being around her eased the lonely ache, even as it twisted it with memories best left buried. And I couldn’t deny the startling realization, which imprinted on my body that first intensely erotic night we shared, that maybe, just maybe, the gods have handed me a precious second chance.
I’ll be damned before I’ll let that go, no matter how stubborn she is.
“I fell in love with you.” It’s the honest truth, but the mistake in saying so is obvious the moment the words blurt from my mouth.
“Oh, please,” she scoffs as she stiffens in her chair, clearly offended by the idea. “Don’t start with that bullshit. That’s low, even for you.”
“It’s not bullshit.”
“No?” She presses her fingers to her temples and sucks in a breath, fighting for calm. “Do you even know what love is, Race?” she asks, her patronizing tone loaded with anger as she folds her hands in her lap.
“Yes.”
I’ve felt the pleasure of it burn in my chest, seeming so long ago now, at Charity’s first shy kiss. And I’ve felt the absolute agony of it as the body of my wife grew cold in my arms. The rage and helplessness of knowing, that even with all the unique power I was born with, there was nothing I could do to stop death.
Yes, I have loved. And I vowed never to fall victim to the gut-wrenching insanity again. Yet here I am, more insane than ever, at the mercy of Astrid’s rejection.
White knuckled, her hands grip the armrests as the plane banks toward Kiruna. Out of the corner of my eye, the small city looms large in the window, but if Astrid notices the dazzling view, it doesn’t show. Her nostrils flare, her gaze fixed squarely on me.
“We fucked, Race. You got what you wanted. I learned my lesson. End of story. So stop trying to prove what a con you are. I get it.”
No, she didn’t get it. Not by a long shot.
“Just tell me one thing,” I say and wait for her to stop rolling her eyes and settle her gaze on mine again. “Before you knew my name. When you thought I was just some guy in a costume. How did it feel when we were together?”
Exciting. Beautiful. Alive.
I see the truths we both experienced flash within her eyes before her expression turns hot with shame. She sucks in a breath and blinks, her chin lifting slightly. Wary. Distrustful.
She opened for me so briefly, but the beauty I saw within her stole my heart. My crumpled, damaged heart. Does she think I enjoy feeling this vulnerability? This painful re-awakening?
“It was fun. That was all,” she snaps.
“That wasn’t all.” Not even remotely. One day soon I’ll have to explain the full extent of my secrets to her as I’m certain she must already have questions about her own. But first, she needs to trust me. “Now who’s lying, Astrid?” I can’t help prodding.
She felt the recognition in her soul. I saw it in her eyes and smile when she looked at me the moment we met at the convention. I saw it in her dreams while she slept beside me that one precious night we shared.
Before the so-called truth of my narcissistic business identity intruded, and the callous shell I worked so hard to build out of my loss and pain came back to bite me. Hard.
Race Lindstrom: professional asshole and womanizer.
The betrayal I knew she would feel as soon as she recognized my name took root with swift, uncompromising fury. She clings to it now as a shield. But it’s a shield I fully intend to crack. Swiftly. And without mercy.
Whether she wants to accept it or not, she is mine.
“Do me a favor, Race? Don’t talk to me for the rest of this trip. Don’t look at me. Don’t touch me. Just leave me the hell alone.”
“I can’t. You were right about one thing, Astrid.” I lick my lips as her own purse in frustration. “I am a selfish bastard. I love you. I want you. And I won’t stop until you are moaning my name with my cock buried deep inside you. Bliss, sweetheart. I’m going to give you bliss or die trying.”  Buy Links - Coastal

An Interview with Lady Malice – Shehanne Moore’s latest new release – The Viking and the Courtesan

perf5.000x8.000.indd

 An Interview with...

Welcome Lady Malice. I’ve never interviewed a time traveller before; I just hope you can stick around long enough to answer my questions.

‘Well, so long as you don’t try to kiss me Jane, I am sure this should not be a problem.’

Shoes are right up there with ice cream and chocolate when we women need a little me treat. How did your obsession with shoes begin?

‘Obsession? Having fifty pairs of shoes, plus another fifty pairs of boots is an obsession? I do not see it as an obsession. On the contrary I think that any woman can understand the healing power of shoes. If I tell your readers how my husband, my second cousin twice removed actually, abandoned me on our wedding night, after entering in the contract on purely financial grounds, how he later stole from me too and then disappeared so I could not even divorce him, I am sure you will see not a cold hearted business woman in me, but a woman in need of pampering, of seeking solace…. ’

What attracts you to a pair of shoes? Is it looks or comfort? Is the same true of men?

‘Shoes? My dear, everything and anything attracts me to a pair of shoes, so long as they are not serviceable. I prefer heels but some flat satin jewel encrusted slippers can be nice. Men? I am attracted to men? Oh very well, I confess. I must be to have liked my husband at one stage. The thing is he and Sin are polar opposites looks wise although they are both good looking men. If we talking basic attraction-ahem-I suppose it is looks. But, a handsome face does not necessarily mean a handsome manner. To stay the distance with a man requires more.’

So if shoes were men which pair of shoes would Sin be? Do you have a picture to share with us; of the shoes or the man himself?

‘Well I think he would be all of these.’

Malshoes4‘This is Sin.’

sin gudrunsson

‘You can see the resemblance he bears to the shoes.’

M mm yes, I certainly can. Absolutely delicious, the shoes I mean. 🙂

How did you decide on the name for your business, strictly isn’t it?

‘Yes. Well, it was like this you see, obviously it’s a delicate matter ruining a marriage by arranging for a husband to be ‘caught in the act’ shall we say and that act not in a play either? Obviously I wanted to ensure our clients…and our girls..Understood one vital thing. It is all Strictly Business and that is how we keep it. Very business-like. No–one is there to frolic. At least I hope not.’

Destroying marriages for money is a strange profession for a married lady, is it not? Rather more risqué than playing the pianoforte or embroidery. How do people react to your business, or do you keep it a secret?

‘Well, obviously I am not received in polite society. No. I do not use my own surname and I live very quietly and unassumingly, meeting the female half of the partnership only. However, I do assure you I provide a vital service when divorce is virtually impossible to come by and I am lauded by those couples I have brought together. Before you think too m badly of me, I did once try to make a living by other means. One of these was by selling my own embroidered tea cosies at Spitalfields Market. Yes.’

You suffered greatly in Regency England for your outspoken thoughts, yet you still voiced them, why was this?

‘My thoughts are outspoken? Do you know that is the first I’ve heard. However, I suppose that I if we are talking my husband, I had a mission to fulfil and very little choice after he complained to the magistrates about not getting his money’s worth but to fulfil it. As for everything else, well, I had a lonely life. I suppose it made it interesting.’

Do you miss anything from Regency England when you time travel to Viking Norway?

‘Shoes. I do think it is fair to say. These Viking ones are awful AND it was all made worse by how and where I landed in Norse times. I lost my shoes. Imagine. I suppose it is fair to say I miss a lot actually but there are compensations.’

What attracts you to your Viking, the aptly named Sin? Were there no suitable men in Regency London?

‘My dear, the position I was in Regency London was very difficult. A cast off wife has no rights. And of course I would not want to be considered a slut. So, anyway, Sin is ..Well he is Sin. And as you can see from that little picture I gave you, the question hardly needs answering. BUT I would add that Sin is a complicated man and was in tow with the wrong woman. Do you know that despite looking like that he was her third choice. Sin, on the surface, can seem iced but underneath he’s had a hard life, one where he’s always been second best and it gives him this quite delicious vulnerability.’

What do you consider the five worst things about Viking Norway?

‘Do you want them in any particular order?’

 No, however you like.

‘The shoes.
The pigs trotting about the house floor.
Reindeer stew. Do you know they eat that?
Everyone living in one room. I mean Sin and I have our own but really….
The fact you go everywhere by boat.’

Would you like to see England in the 21st century? If you lived here now, what career would you pursue? Why?

‘I think I would like to try my hand at two things if I lived now. One is designing shoes, the other is match-making. I do think I would do rather well. I would indeed like to see England, London especially in the 21st century. I would like to look up my grandmother and stop her selling her soul to be a best selling author, resulting in us all being cursed. But, there. Then I would not meet Sin.’

Do you believe in soul mates? If so have you found yours yet?

‘Absolutely. His name is Sin and I adore him. And he must be my soul mate or I would still be zinging back and forward.’

Thank you for staying with us Lady Malice and for your characteristically candid answers.

‘Thank you so much for having me Jane. Now, you don’t by any chance need a marriage wrecked do you?’

No, thank you  I think after thirty plus years… We’ll stay the course. 🙂

Here’s something from

The Viking and the Courtesan to tempt new readers:

Blurb - Coastal

In 898 AD she wasn’t just from another land.

Wrecking a marriage is generally no problem for the divorce-obtaining Lady Malice Mallender. But she faces a dilemma when she’s asked to ruin her own. Just how businesslike should she remain when the marriage was never consummated and kissing her husband leads to Sin—a handsome Viking who wants her for a bed slave in name only?

She came from another time.

Viking raider Sin Gudrunsson wants one thing. To marry his childhood sweetheart. Only she’s left him before, so he needs to keep her on her toes, and a bed slave, in name only, seems just the thing. Until he meets Malice.

One kiss is all it takes to flash between two times.

But when one kiss is no longer enough, which will it be? Regency London? Or Viking Norway? Will Malice learn what governs the flashes? Can Sin?

Where worlds collide, can love melt the iciest heart?

Here’s what I thought about The Viking and the Courtesan:

 My Review - Coastal

Lady Malice is not your typical Regency heroine but she is compelling and strangely likeable. A victim of an arranged marriage, she is still, woefully innocent and unfulfilled. Maybe this is why she enjoys her chosen career so much?

Destroying marriages is an unusual pursuit for a married lady but it keeps her in shoes and stops her thinking about her own disastrous nuptials. Faced with an unthinkable dilemma she seeks out her errant husband to carry out her latest commission, with life changing results.

The time slip is seamless and the shift from Regency drawing room to Saxon village under Viking attack, swift and shocking. Malice’s surprise and fear is tangible but her cynical outlook and sharp tongue remain. Both traits help her withstand the unexpected ordeal, despite the carnage surrounding her.

Sin is less than impressed with the latest slaves but he needs a bed slave to keep his fickle fiancée interested. Malice is no one’s slave but she finds Sin hard to resist. The chemistry between the courtesan and the Viking is memorable, despite the incongruity of their situation.

I loved the inconvenient time travelling and the gradual reveal of its meaning. Malice is prepared to risk all for her man and her strength and tenacity are legendary.

I purposely delayed writing this review for a few days, to see what I could remember. Malice, Sin and their compatriots’ formidable personalities, are easy to recall.

Flowers - My Review

A Kiss In the DarkAn easy to read novella that delivers nicely written, contemporary escapism, perfect for the beach. Grace and Ryan are likeably imperfect and easy to warm to. The story’s New York setting adds an extra dimension and makes the couple’s unlikely meeting plausible.

Ryan is a web designer who also enjoys boxing. His fashionable job and trendy hobby, ramp up the escapism value of this story. Grace, a successful writer has family issues, which make her insular and guilty. Playboy Ryan is the perfect man to let her live a little. Something every girl needs. The scenes with Grace’s father are poignant, realistic and sensitively written.

Despite the story’s brevity, both character’s develop as a result of their interaction and the romantic ending is worthy of them and their emotional journey.

3* Review: 101 Erotic Nights – The Sheherazade Diaries – The Secret Diarists

Adult Read

25282437Poppy - Blurb“… Like Sheherazade, I was fighting to change what struck me as a very bleak future and what follows is the uncensored and unabridged account of how I met that challenge. Was I successful? Well, you’ll just have to read on to find out….”

The Secret Diarists are an anonymous group who have never met and perhaps never will.

They came together online and were inspired by one writer’s idea to create a collaborative work called The Sheherazade Diaries. Loosely based on the concept of 1001 Arabian Nights, their diverse talents were challenged to create a book of romantic, erotic stories linked by a narrative thread.

The result is Beth’s story.

Frustrated that the spark has gone out of her marriage and desperate to feel that connection again, Beth Rogers has a plan: to seduce her husband Miles all over again.

Throughout their new bedtime adventures, Beth keeps a diary. Soon this diary becomes more than just a collection of erotica to arouse Miles in the bedroom, it helps Beth realize she wants more from this marriage than perhaps he can give her…

Flowers - My Review

101 Erotic Nights: The Sheherazade DiariesThe Sheherazade Diaries is an interesting concept, which has an overall narrative about a professional woman, Beth, who has a colourful and tragic past. In a rut, she wants to reintroduce the sparkle back in her relationship. She has many bohemian and free spirited friends who are eager to help and suggest erotic tales, in the form of diary entries, are the answer.

Beth is a likeable and complex woman, in her thirties with poignant memories and a self depreciating sense of humour, which she shares with her diary and the reader. Intended for adults, these short, provocative stories, flow well and cleverly illustrate the vulnerability of Beth, her partner Miles and her eclectic collection of friends. The ending is a closure of sorts but suggests there are more tales and more life of Beth to follow.

Old boyfriends, a sexy best man and a haunted past, make Amy’s first wedding in charge, full of humorous, poignant and sexy encounters. Owen challenges her all work and no play philosophy. I love listening to music and you can often find me at a concert or a festival, rock being my favourite genre. Music has a massive influence in my books and I often listen to songs whilst writing.

I have always written, even as a child I would write short stories and make up plays to perform to my parents. I originally wanted to be a journalist, however things happened in my life and my path was changed dramatically.

I am an avid reader and I will try all genres, from romance to autobiographies, although romance is my favourite. I love the feels you get from the storylines, the love and angst, the will they, won’t they, and all the emotions.

5* Review: A Cottage in the Country – Linn B. Halton

25773021Poppy - BlurbWhat do you do when your best friend has an affair with the man to whom you’ve been married for twenty-five years? The father of your two children and the person you trusted with your heart? Not to mention the best years of your life …

Well, you pack your bags, grab half of the equity in the house you’ve both lovingly restored and run away to an idyllic little cottage in the country.

I suppose not having the cottage surveyed was the first mistake—buying with your heart, and not your head, isn’t the wisest move. The second was moving in six days before Christmas, the day the heavens decided to open and the rain just kept on coming.

Maddie Brooks grits her teeth and hires the highly recommended man who can, ex-soldier, Lewis Hart. As he rips out the very shabby and decidedly not-so-chic kitchen, reality sets in. Not only is he the most abrupt person she’s ever met, but the man is a Neanderthal!

As the flood waters rise, and the village is cut off, everything that could possibly go wrong, does. How bad can it get, Maddie asks herself? Well, that was before she found herself living with no central heating and no kitchen, and the man who can, as an unexpected house guest.

Hitting the big five-o two days before Christmas is the final straw. No presents, family, or friends—just Lewis Hart, who can’t leave because the flood has now cut off his exit. How on earth is she going to get through this and put her life back together?

AmazonFlowers - My Review

A Cottage in the CountryAnyone who has ever renovated property will recognise the disasters waiting to happen as Maddie finds her ‘perfect’ country cottage. This story is so much more than an escape to the country; it’s more an escape from life and after her recent betrayals, who can blame her?
Traumatic change is difficult at any age but none more so, for a woman whose family has left the nest and who is let down by those whom she should expect loyalty and respect. I empathised with Maddie from the first page. This story is full of believable characters, vivid imagery and simmering passion; peppered with witty humour that is the perfect counterpoint to the Maddie’s poignant journey of self-discovery.
Maddie is an older heroine but despite her years, she is naive. It’s this inherent vulnerability that appeals to the men in her life. Her sons want her to forgive their father, without knowing the full story, her boss and long time friend Ryan, wants her to experience life in the fast lane and Lewis wants her to go away. Unfortunately for his sense of self preservation, she gets under his skin and makes him want to protect her too. Maddie draws deep on her emotional resources in this story and proves to be the strongest of them all.
‘A Cottage in the Country’, is a charming, heartfelt tale with a suitably romantic ending, which I loved, even though I was a little sad to say goodbye to Maddie and her dream cottage.
I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
