In Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Nellie nudges Veronica on a ‘voyage’ to discover courage and real love. Veronica grew up shy, invisible, and hopelessly in love with Davis, the older of the Crowley brothers. When she returns home on the eve of Davis’ wedding, she has one last chance to try for the love she’s always been denied. Will she succeed in crashing his wedding? Not if Lucas Crowley, the younger brother, can help it. But how far will Lucas go to stop her?

Here’s what inspired Lynda to write her magical wedding story:

When I was offered the opportunity to write a wedding-themed novella for the Magical Weddings boxed set, I admit that the first thing that came to my mind was Cinderella. After all, she is the fairy tale ‘queen’ of all things satin and lace. But then I thought…

What about the fairy godmother? What’s her deal? Where’d she come from?

I’d been researching circus history for a new writing project and I couldn’t help but think of good ole’ Fairy Godmother in a whole new form. In my world, she was Nellie Pearle, a very large and heavily tattooed lady, long ago retired from traveling the world as a sideshow entertainer.

Poppy - Excerpt
I don’t want advice.” Veronica tilted her head back and let the mouthful of scotch burn a path down her throat, like thick warm honey. “What I need right now is a fairy godmother to wrinkle her nose—”
“That’s Bewitched.”
“Nod her head?”
“I Dream of Jeannie.”
“Oh, that’s right. I need the bibbity bobbity boo lady.”
“That’s the one, dear.” Nellie smiled. “And what should she give you? You don’t seem to need a fancy dress, glass slippers or a pumpkin carriage.”
“Nope. Don’t need those things.” Veronica put her head down on the bar, enjoying the cool feel of the tile against her cheek. “I need courage.”
“My mother had a recipe for courage. Here you are.” Nellie handed Veronica a bright blue drink in a tall beer glass.
“What do you call it?”
“In honor of this weekend, we’ll call it Something Borrowed, Something Blue.”

Flowers - My Review

‘Something Borrowed, Something Blue’ is a tale of unrequited love, reunion and self discovery. Veronica is determined to make Davis see he is marrying the wrong woman. She hopes her ugly duckling to beautiful swan transformation will remove the scales from player Davis’ eyes and finally return her love.

Veronica is a strong woman but she lacks self belief by hanging on to a teenage crush and making it something it never was. Her deception discovered, she seeks solace in Nellie’s bar and meets the redoubtable owner. Suddenly everything changes.

What follows is a delightful romantic fairytale with two potential candidates for Prince Charming. Who will she choose and can she trust her innermost thoughts or is it all an illusion? Well you’ll have to read this lovely story to find out. ‘Something Borrowed; Something Blue has romance, heat and something a little mystical the perfect wedding tale.

  1. Thanks, Leigh. It feels great! Elsa, thank you. I’m proud to say that I’ve turned 29 about 17ish times now. The only thing I have to complain about is my eyesight – I can’t read without glasses anymore.
