5* Review: King Hall – Scarlett Dawn (Forever Evermore series)

Paranormal Blurb

King Hall — where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies.

Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing: survival. Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden, but her nightmare is only about to start. Fluke, happenstance, and a deep personal loss finds Lily deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing — The Mystical Kings. Being named future Queen of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight, making her one of the most visible Mysticals in the world. But with risk comes a certain solace — her burgeoning friendships with the other three Prodigies: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life.

Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: the revolution.

Paranormal My Review

King Hall (Forever Evermore, #1)King Hall, the first in the Forever Evermore series is a new adult paranormal/urban fantasy romance which is on a par with the best in this genre. The world building is first class and the society of Mysticals is comparable to the Night World stories of L.J Smith. The characters are all vivid and easy to visualise as are their paranormal skills and magic.

The story unfolds through Lily’s eyes. She has a life endangering secret. The plot is complex and initially I thought I was reading the second book in the series but as Lily reveals how she ended up at King Hall; the school where Mysticals learn their craft, this book is the ideal starting place for the series.

The story is rich in edgy, realistic dialogue and there is plenty of kick ass action between the Mystical’s and Commoners (humans). It is in the same class as Rachel Vincent’s ‘Shifter series and similarly addictive. I loved the camaraderie and humour between the prodigies, which underlines the whole story.

Suspense and tension builds to a thrilling climax at the end of the book both in terms of emotion and plot. This is where I wanted it to be a complete story rather than a series. Now I have to buy book 2.

A fabulous start to what promises to be a wonderful series.

I received a copy of this book from Escape Publishing via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
