5* Review: Made in Nashville Mandy Baggot

I have to confess I love country music and always make time to watch the TV series Nashville so when I saw this on NetGalley I had to read it. Doubly so since I loved ‘Do You Remember’ Mandy Baggot first release from Harper Impulse. Here’s the blurb:

An on-stage attack left Honor Blackwood with more scars than just the one on her face. It’s been ten years since she left her spot as Nashville’s brightest country music star. Is now the time to return? And is she brave enough to do it?

Country rebel and rock star, Jared ‘Jed’ Marshall is hot property on the Tennessee music scene in more ways than one. He’s wild, he’s sexy and everybody wants a piece of him. But when he sets his sights on Honor, is it pure attraction or just distraction on his mind?

Honor’s record label sign the ex-boyfriend that dumped her and suddenly going back to her old life is harder than she thought. Can she get a new contract? Will she get to perform at the Marlon Festival? Or will Dan Steele destroy everything?

When a secret from the past becomes public knowledge it’s no longer just about the music. Are all the people in her life lying to her to get what they want? And who is really behind the anonymous gifts she keeps getting sent?

Made in NashvilleMy Review

Country music songs nearly always tell a story. Loss, family and bad boys are popular themes. ‘Made in Nashville’ has all three and they are beautifully interwoven to give this story romance, heartbreak, courage and suspense.

Honor’s incredible talent and courage wins her fame and fortune but a random attack whilst on stage destroys her bright future. The assault leaves her with a facial scar but ten years on it’s the emotional scars which stop her reclaiming her destiny. Honor is brave and feisty despite her vulnerability.

Jed is a country rock star he’s earned his bad boy status but underneath the persona a gentleman hides along with his life changing secrets. Jed’s gentle nature makes him as attractive inside as he is in the flesh.

I like the serendipity of Jed and Honor’s meeting and the way they both see the true person behind the facade. A sinister undercurrent gives the story added interest and the plot’s final twists keep the emotional pressure on the Honor and Jed right to the end. The support cast enhance the story and bring the country music setting to life.

‘Made in Nashville’ is an enjoyable read with great characters and an interesting plot.

I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
