Here’s the blurb:Begin Again Cover

‘What if one night changed your life forever?
Maisie Scott lost not only her husband and unborn child in a tornado two years ago she lost her will to live. Keeping busy is the only way she can get by. This small town waitress won’t let herself get attached to anyone…until Ryan, the new veterinarian for exotic animals, starts making regular trips to her diner. As hard as she tries not to feel anything, Ryan ignites a spark in her broken heart.
Ryan Tucker craves a happy family of his own more than his Momma’s apple pie. Getting over his fiancée leaving him six months ago, he moves to Pleasant Valley for a fresh start. When he meets Maisie and notices the sadness in her eyes he is determined to put a smile on her pretty face. What starts out as innocent flirting turns into two people finding something they no longer want to live without? The problem is Maisie has deep scars inside and out. Showing Ryan that part of her may just be too painful.
When another dangerous storm hits, Ryan stays by Maisie’s side. She fills the missing piece in his heart, but will Ryan share his secret? Can Maisie move on from the past and learn to begin again?’

5* Review: The Park Bench Test Sarah Lefebve

The Park Bench Test
The title of this book intrigued me and the story didn’t disappoint. The more I read the more I liked it until I couldn’t put it down.

Becky and Emma have been friends since childhood. The story starts with a wedding albeit between ‘Barbie and Ken’ and the inquiring minds of eight year old girls wondering how Barbie knew Ken was the ‘Mr Right’ and Becky’s dad’s surprisingly intuitive reply.

Fast forward to a twenty-seven year old Becky who meets Emma in London to shop for Katie’s forthcoming wedding. Katie and Becky have been friends since university where Katie met her soon to be husband Matt.

Katie’s impending marriage unsettles Becky and she wonders if Alex her partner of six years really is Mr Right. When Alex asks her to marry him she shocks herself and him by saying no.

Becky is a frustrated writer who works in a company that sells pencils and pens. The money is good but the work is soul-destroying and Becky longs to escape. She decides to leave and is persuaded by Katie to move to London and stay with her and Matt.

What follows is a journal of Becky’s life as she strives for success in her chosen career and wonders if there is a ‘Mr Right’ out there for her.
The characters are realistic and charmingly flawed, especially James. The situations Becky finds herself in often hilarious. The romance when it happens is lovely and I empathised with Becky as she tries to find her soul mate.

The plot has interesting twists which confirmed what I suspected rather than surprised me but I think this is the author’s intention. You experience the story with Becky and feel her joy and pain and can’t wait to discover what happens next.

The ending is worthy of the best Rom-Com and the whole story would make a wonderful film.

A superb debut book I look forward to the next one.

‘I received an ARC from Harper Collins UK HarperImpulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review’.
